Fuck. I'm getting old.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Still remember when I saw Rainbow in concert, back in the late 70s, when I was not even a high school lad yet, probably 14 at the time… …at the old Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh… …Ronnie Montrose and Gamma was the warmup act, and they kicked ass too.

I forgot how amazing Vivian Campbell was in the day. I imagine Def Leppard pays more, but damn was he a hell of a guitarist with Dio.

I've been listening to a lot of P.U.T.S.

Schooled in the Trade

San Francisco Knights

The L.A. Song

Has anyone ever heard of Alamein? I first heard them a couple of years ago, but apparently they only released on very short EP, and I can't find any other info. Is it a side project? Or just someone dabbling?

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Back on subject, I've been listening to old skool hardcore, drum and bass and breakbeat for the last few months. http://www.choons.net is a great website for downloading DJ sets. The Faydz sets are excellent, especially if you spent your youth at various raves around the M25 :D

I get a chuckle out of the amount of stuff I own from the GTA soundtrack. I jacked a car last night that was tuned to The Journey and it was playing a track off the Aphex Twin's double ambient cd. I don't really listen to the electronic stuff any more, but I love that set.

it involves some people who were associated with Acid Bath (doesn't sound much like it), but have you checked out Goatwhore?  And I agree Dax Riggs is well Rock on!

I just got this in the mail today. Two red vinyls, a CD with the contents of said vinyls, a DVD documentary, and a 100 page book of punk rock awesome. Gotta love birthday money; my mom couldn't have bought me a better gift.

For those who don't click the link, Let Them Know is a great look into the punk scene from a record company that was involved since 1982. When I was a DJ at my college radio station, I got tons of great stuff from BYO, largely on vinyl. The brothers Stern are the real deal.

I traded in my fun blog for several legal blogs. Or, "blawgs," as the cutesy attorney blawgosphere likes to call 'em.

I find myself listening to more stuff like this lately

Like someone in the Youtube comments mentions this sounds a lot like something from the recently passed Nujabes.

Mostly been listening to a Cab Calloway compilation. Also a couple discs I got off Wolfgang's Vault. They do a daily download for $4 ($6 for FLAC), I got a couple nice shows from SRV and Freddie King. I think I've mentioned it before, but if you like music you should at least check out their streaming section, tons of concerts.

Most awesome, for real moment is probably early Sabbath covering Blue Suede Shoes.

Indukti & Lazuli are good. I saw Indukti at NEARfest too... :)

I got my copy of Porcupine Tree's Anesthetize yesterday - the special edition with Blu-ray, DVD and 2 CDs in an impressive clothbound book. It's my first Blu-ray. I wouldn't say that live music is a showcase for the format but it is a good concert video and the higher resolution is welcome. This a very well recorded, filmed and edited live performance. They excel at performing live and this movie captures it well without much gimmickry in the presentation. Hell, the drumquake shots are cool too. The standard BD/DVD package will ship in late June, initially in a limited digibook run, then in super jewel case. The DVD-only version is available now - it's been available for a couple of weeks in fact - BD production involves longer lead times and delays at the moment, it seems.

I love HD concerts, if it's a good transfer or whatever. Being able to see with better clarity what the musicians are doing, especially guitar fingerings or peeking at effects boards really enhances shows.

Tomorrow's download deal on Wolfgang's Vault is UFO from '75. Michael Schenker tearing it up, great concert. Nice mid-70s rock with some boogie piano and great proto-metal guitar playing. Just sick loud marshal tone the way it should be. As I mentioned in my last post, the daily deals are $4 mp3/$6 flac, great deal for a rocking concert.

UFO is one of those proto-metal bands for some reason I never heard in my formative years, so catching up is nice. I always read metal bands citing them as an influence, should've cracked them open long ago!

Anything you can recommend from them?  I've heard a handful of songs on XM over the last few years and nothing particularly struck me, so I've pretty much not done anything beyond that.

The standard recommendation would be any of the Schenker albums from Phenomenon through to Obsession with Lights Out being the strongest, but the smart place is the live Strangers In The Night. You could check out their space rock roots in UFO 2 Flying. Also good.

Or the $4 mp3 live showawesome, for real Schenker has some off notes, but for the most part it's pretty smokin' (and cheap). The tone....mmm...as a blues fan, I have a much higher tolerance for the occasional off-note, though. You can stream it first to see if you like it, I was listening to it most of the day yesterday.

Queensryche is doing a show at the local casino, but with all the shows that have cropped up this summer, I don't think we have it in the budget. I guess it's a sign of the times when I'm holding out for Buddy Guy tickets at a venue 4 hours away rather than get front row QR tickets right around the corner. We did splurge on some Derek & Susan tickets, I'm very excited to see them together. Going this weekend to see a gypsy jazz trio, then later this month is the rescheduled Johnny Winter and James Cotton show at the Egg.

Live show recordings are extremely hit or miss for me.  I've ragged on some bands who have put out horrible live albums and just do nothing for trying to get me excited or interested, especially when they have good studio albums (and are good to see live).  Not to mention I still like physical media rather than downloads =P

FLAC to AIFF, burn to cd. Then I FLAC to AAC for my ipod. The UFO show definitely has a few rough spots, but overalll it works and is some great Deep Purple-eqsue asskickery. I mostly bought it for the excellent version of Built for Comfort, a Dixon tune I have in several forms, favorite being Howlin' Wolf's. I totally want to rip off the UFO version with someone.

I'll have to check out the official live album, four more years of polish for Schenker. But I'm pretty forgiving of live shows, I'd rather hear passionate and spontaneous than clean and well-articulated (for rock and blues, anyway).

Like I said though, just stream it for free :)

Saw the gypsy jazz trio I mention, last night. Holy shit. Kruno Spisic is the fucking man. That kid plays so fast (but also some heartbreakingly beautiful slow numbers), with such precision and sweet note choices, amazing tone and also has a great singing voice (the cougars were purring). Several of the best area guitarists in the crowd and we were all humbled. If you have a chance, get out to see Kruno play, you will not be disappointed! This was his last date on this tour, but keep an eye open.
