De La Soul's new crowdfunded "De La Soul and the anonymous nobody" album was just released. First in 12 years. Some fun collaborations:

De La Soul feat. Snoop Dogg - Pain
De La Soul feat. Little Dragon - Drawn

Just got back from Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and Heart.  Mike McCready from Pearl Jam joined Cheap Trick and Heart for a song each.  It was pretty cool to see how much they all still rock.

So this song (video) by Haudegen, a german band, is five years old but I just discovered them. Most of their songs have great hooks.

Just an added note from the concert, since it was in Washington and pot is semi-legal, there was a constant breeze of marijuana in the air.  I can't imagine what it will be like next week when Snoop Dog plays.

We catch Heart every time they come through, and I'm in the fan club. Usually nets me 5th row...lots of fans (seats are doled out by member # and I joined three years ago). They fucking slay, Annie is as good as she's ever been and the tour through Zep is better than Zep can do by a light year. They did No Quarter last year and it gave me chills.

I'm bummed a little because Stephane Wrembel is doing a django a gogo down in NJ, he was originally going to do it up by me (where I took lessons with him). Al Dimeola and a bunch of awesome guitar players, concerts and workshops for days.

To be more useful: my current favorite export from Oz:

Devil Electric - The Gods Below

Stoned Meadow of Doom is the greatest channel ever. Here's an Oz band with great vocals and heavy riffs. Between stuff like this and the Blues Pills (scandanavian), people who say there's no good rock music need a swift kick to the jimmies.

This band was my go to music for my past few months working in New Mexico.

That so weird - I just started getting into them yesterday. I've been in a total music funk lately and picked them at random, totally dig it.

They remind me of a much, much better Ghost. Also, lesbian vampires which are a wholly better thing than chocolate and peanut butter.

The Pretty Reckless - Take Me Down

Yes, the actress from Gossip Girl has a band, The Pretty Reckless, which is really good bluesy-hard rock. They just released their fourth album, Who You Selling For, which is pretty good.

Leonard Cohen - You Want it Darker

New Leonard Cohen album, You Want it Dark, which is also good.

That's amazing.  I especially like the guitar sound throughout, it's almost identical to how my home setup sounds.  Not all polished and clean, just the way I like my demos.  These are the kinds of things you wonder where they've been hiding for 30+ years without seeing the light of day.

I'm surprised more people don't know who Sharon Jones was. We got to see her a couple times, before she was sick and once when she was pretty out of it, which was still amazing because you could see her fighting, her soul power just shining despite her body shutting down and under the effects of the chemo. Amazing artist gone way too early.
