Well, I wasn't going to name names.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

I am heartened by the evidence of other trackball users. Especially Rhyssa who has a Microsoft Optical Explorer Trackball which is possibly the greatest pointing device ever invented. They are around €300 each now if you can still find a boxed one on eBay.

I use a trackball for the work laptop when at home, but for gaming I use a mouse.

My grandparents have one laying around, but I could never get used to it, so it sits.

I am mostly looking at people's rooms and making personal judgements.  To that end, I'd like to see less close-cropping. Ohhhhh, I see.

Why don't you go start a "post your computer room" thread about it then?  Ohhhhh, I see.

Messy?  I'm going to go with claustrophobic. *shudders*

As for showing the rest of my home office, as soon as I get some more AAs, I'll post another picture.  My camera is old ad treats batteries like candy.  And I promise to not clean up first.

Thanks Signe.  My bear keeps my company when the dog isn't pestering me.

Not my desk, but rather one of the guys' in QA at work.

Apparently they did this just today and he isn't back from vacation yet. They calculated it at 14 cu. feet of foam peanuts.

I would have added Viin, too, but I don't know how cuddly the cat is.  It could be the sort that turns into a furry ball of hypodermic needles when cuddled.

He's annoyingly cuddly. You can thank my wife for the randomly colored rooms. (Does look real nice with those plantation shutters, doesn't it?)

Sorry about the horrible flash. It's dark outside. I notice I also expertly (...) avoided showing my face in the reflection.

The seating arrangement is more to do with the logistics of power sockets than choice, there's a lot of room up here that we'd be using if not for the fact that both the power sockets up here are on the same wall and less than a foot apart. The chairs are identical because we had to buy all the furniture for the apartment so we just found a chair we both liked at IKEA and got two of them.

Also, I'm jealous of the rigs you guys have.  I apparently need a new job.

Just sit at your house all day and you'll be amazed how much money starts piling up!  I stopped doing things years ago and if I didn't have kids to spend it, I'd have tons of money!

I have nothing to contribute since my computer desk hasn't changed since last year, the year before, or the year before that.  These things also happen with kids and a house.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

 Thumbs up!

I have the side off of my case because my vid card runs hot.  Is there really a problem with having the side off if I keep it dust free?

Also, I'm jealous of the rigs you guys have.  I apparently need a new job.

Or just spend a greater % of your income on your computer?

I have no clue what I'd do if my trackball broke.  I'm so used to using it now and I love the thing.  Stupid fucking MS refusing to keep making them and/or allow someone else to market them instead.  There are so few finger trackballs around.  Not everyone wants to move the trackball with their thumb.  I tried that kind first and never got comfortable at all.  Plus my hand would cramp sometimes when I'd been on a computer for long periods of time (e.g. gaming or doing graphics).

I have two, one at home and one at work. Recently my home one became far too loose, the switches under the thumb buttons weren't working properly and the ball bearings under the trackball itself were worn down to the point that the ball can rattle in its hole. I replaced it with one of these which is pretty close to the MS one if you take the time to remap some of the buttons. The big difference is that the right click is actually on the right hand side of the ball while the left click is a thumb button and you can't remap right click to any of the left hand side buttons. Once I've been using it for a few minutes though, I stop confusing myself. Also the scroll wheel is too far forwards so I tend not to use it so much.

I wish MS would put their trackball back into production.

I really need to clean my desk:

Edit: My laptop generally sits on the laptop cooler thats obscured by paper and the backrest of the chair, and the monitor seems off-center as I actually have 2 of them, but just had to RMA one.  I'll post a new pic when it arrives again and I clean shit up.  It's a very lovely desk.

I guess you don't realize how small your shitty apartment is until you try to take a picture of a lot of it at once.

That bundle of wires is mostly controllers, etc. But frankly, unless I put them back in their moving box, I don't have anywhere great to hide them. This is not ideal living conditions for me. :(

My god, how can you people work with such cluttered desktops?  I'd post, however, I don't really have a computer area in my house, and at work, my desk has my computer, my notebook, and my water bottle on it.  Too much clutter and it bothers me to the point where I need to clean it up before I focus on work....

Can't find my camera atm but just imagine a cheap particle board desk with a cheap-ass 15" KDS USA monitor, $10 Wal-Mart keyboard and World of Warcraft cards scattered over it.  I do have a nice view of my plum trees in my front yard though!

I work fine with a cluttered desk since I can easily focus only on the monitor.  Hooray for ADHD!  Also I am a big believer in the Paperless Office, which doesn't explain the amount of paper on my desk.

Since I don't have a real camera anymore, and I'm bored, I took a picture of my office.

I've seen that Logitech one and already figured it would be my replacement if/when I need one.  I use my scroll wheel a lot though, so that would be the worst change to get used to, I'm thinking.  The button placement probably won't bother me much, but I currently have one of my 2 right side buttons set to double-click, so that would be a loss as well.  Bah.  I don't want to think about losing this trackball.  I might have to go on a rampage when it does die.

Iain, I have to ask; why is there a cave wall in your house?
I was wondering that as well, just didn't want to ask.  Too busy talking trackball solidarity!
