Edit- Can someone fix it so I can reply to my own threads?
-------------------------------------------------
Gamespy does it's typical crappy reporting from the XBOX perspective. Appenrtly, the eidos PR flak didn't know much about the game either, and the previewer hasn't played I or II.

Quote
I did not need to look far. In Thief: Deadly Shadows, Garrett has the newfound ability to climb up cobblestone walls, and that's exactly what I was backed up againt. Turning around, I leapt onto the wall and began my ascent, leaving the guards howling in frustration. "I'll get you when you decide to come back down!" one said, which I thought was a nice touch.

I see Spiderman the movie made quite an impression didn't it.

Quote
As before, the game tells you the percentage of valuables you've grabbed in the level, and the loot from the study equalled a mere two percent.

As Before?!?!!? At the END yes, not DURING it. Now I can see the gameplay advanatage of this, but it's metagaming. I suspect consoltiies.

Quote
That reminds me. In Thief: Deadly Shadows, you can actually see more than just your arm -- much like in Namco's recent Breakdown, you can see quite a bit of Garrett's body through the first-person perspective.

So did Decent to Undermountain....

Quote
Whatever he does to train between games, it must not involve fighting, because Garrett is still pretty useless in a direct fight.

Gamespy misses the entire POINT of the game I see.

Quote
This time I walked by the guard and proceeded out into the city streets. This necessitated another map load, similar to those in Invisible War. I hope Thief's areas tend to be bigger than Deus Ex's, and haven't yet seen enough to make a call either way. That initial castle level seemed very big, for what it's worth.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

How much you wanna bet you load every time you go up a flight of stairs?

Quote
I'm not a hardcore fan of the original games, so I'm not sure how fans will take to it.

I do not ever read Gamespy, I just found this linked of c.s.i.p.g.rpg.

(edit- err, III not IV. Just my little 1/4 joke. Yes, that was it).

Psycho.

Seriusly, take a step back and a deep breath.  The stuff you quoted that guy as saying is nothing and your still entirely bent out of shape about it.

He climbed up a wall and you got upset.

He looted something and you got upset.

He says the view is a bit expanded from striaght 1st person and you got upset.

He confirms that the viability of gettng in a stand up fight with garret is about the same as it's always been and you get upset.

There is a zone between the opening level in some castle and the rest of the world and you get upset

Um, give it a rest..

Holy shit Comstar, it would seem you've already decided Theif III won't be any good. Load times was alittle worrying but the rest of your complaints were just stupid.

IW made tons more money than the original Deus Ex so if they learned something i doubt its anything you would want them to apply to Thief III.

I'm getting kind of sick of people being desperate to hate something for no readily apparent reason. Comstar has already decided that he hates this game as some sort of revenge for Deus Ex 2.

So shut the fuck up and come back with a fully formed opinion after you've at least played a demo.

It's a Thief game, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. I'm leaning towards buying it on the X-Box if I buy it, just because I like the ease of use of a console as opposed to PC's these days.

Don't fall for it! It is attitudes like yours that encourage the devs to ignore PCs altogether in favor of consoles. I like my XBox as much as most people do, but I still prefer to play a lot of games on the PC (especially RPGs and strategy games- hell, anything with more than a couple of menus).

Make the PC version as easy to use and bug-free as (most) console games and cost less, I'm there.

In the end, I'll probably buy whichever version I can get for the cheapest. :)

That is a valid concern. However, as the Splinter Cell fiasco shows, it isn't a guarantee any longer. As far as cost goes, I pay less for almost every PC game that I buy than I do for XBox titles (which are $49.99 across the board until they are older than dirt).

First thief had stupid zombies.

Second thief had stupid mechanical monsters.

Thing I want to know most about this thief is what out of place, game breakingly dumb bad guys they are planning to put in, just to make me stop playing when, toward the end of the game, most missions seem to give up on the cool, well designed, and interesting human encounters, and just gives us lots of undead robots instead.

Hurrumpf.

Ninja-pirate-aliens. With laser guns. And magic beards.

That's my bet.

Come on zombies and robots are cool. It was the fucking apemen that pissed me off.

I actually liked the little speaches the robots looped, they were freaky and reminded me of System Shock ( Always a good thing ).

The little robots' speeches were great. "Blessed are welded, for they shall know the Builder's love, the Builder's love."

I'm slightly disappointed they'll be no steam robots this time. Probably all going to be more tricksy sneaksies.

Well, Randy Smith is out, apparently. ("Creative differences".) That doesn't bode well.
