Did anyone preorder it?

Did you get into the beta?

Anyone want to try? http://signup.leagueoflegends.com/preorder

I want a goddamn beta key.

Also, I guess this will turn into League of Legends discussion now.

PS Started a new thread because the last one was fucking insane.

The summoner stuff looks cooler then I had hoped, but hard to balance, good luck to them on that front.

Also free is good for giving us plenty of people to play, but now it's going to be 90% retarded kiddies, vs. say 90% retarded 20-somethings.

They said Sept release in their presser, fingers crossed!

Do you get beta access with the preorder? Can't see anything about it so maybe no...

I'm in the beta, but haven't had a chance to play due to a constant stream of visitors for the last few weeks. I'm hoping to hop in this weekend.

Check your e-mails.

They sent out a big wave of invites for stress testing, plus everyone already in got an extra friend invite.

(Nuke this if that was too much info, people seem to post about invite waves fairly often.)

The Force is strong with this one.

edit:
I get a strong sense of BatteForge with this title... which I dumped due to lack of guild support.  They SAY they're gonna have guild support with LoL, but I've heard that spiel before.
anyone have the skinny on the guild UI?

I would check this out, if a key was available. Certainly can't afford to throw US$30 at random games at this time. (I can't even afford Blood Bowl cry)

yah, the purchase only gets you extra items...  it's just like BattleForge, matter of fact...really it's an online TCG where instead of just casting stuff ur actually just collecting to equip and modify a set amount of Champions that you actually fight with Diablo-style (instead of turn-based or RTS).
The evil dont-let-your-children-play aspect is that you can create an unlimited amount of customized gear and abilities through microtrans... not even including stuff that opens up as you level.

If they get the guild UI going at release, I'm playing this thing.

The stuff you buy, for the most part, has no bearing on the competition. It's just pretty widgets, like outfits or colors.

Well, it has no bearing on the competition in that they say runes 'n such dont actually make a player stronger, it only opens up strategic options.  Which, in TCG terms means; "makes a player stronger."
And I'll stop using the term TCG now, because I've seen no indication of there being some type of marketplace.

This is much less a CCG and much more another DOTA clone isn't it or am I getting something wrong from the video/faq.

Its dota from the people that made dota. It may as well be called dota 2. Also, Ghambit, you're assuming too much.

I can't really dedicate any time to it, I envy the fun you guys will have though.

Didn't know it was by the people who did DOTA, makes the other DOTA clone seem stupid, esp since this one is free with RMT.

Free with COSMETIC RMT for the most part. Everything else is unlockable.

Considering i never played Warcraft 3 and thus no DoTA, someone explain it to me.  Is this more like a typical RTS game of resource collection, troop and building creation, and armies of bunches of units going at it, or more like a action rpg style game where you primarily control one hero who does the bulk of the work?

You ONLY control one hero unless you have summons, there is no resource gathering or base building of any kind except the resources gathered  by fighting (exp/lewts/monies) and the npcs are just fodder that act like the creeps in tower defense.

Gaining exp/money are equally important because exp=more/better character abilities and money = more powerful equipment.  Effect of abilities versus equipment is arguably even, with equipment being a bit more important for most characters.

Player "Skill" is a mix of :
1) knowing how to kill creeps effectively to maximize your exp/money gain
2) knowing what stuff to buy and when / knowing you character
3) working with team / using your abilities synergistically
4) not getting killed by the opposing players ('feeding the opposition' is BAD)
5) killing the opposition

I'm not entirely happy with the order there, but it's pretty close to that.

Don't forget:

1.1) Excessive micro to maximize xp and money

Making sure you get as many killing blows as possible during fights is the key to advancing faster than your enemies, which is sad because it is my least favorite part of the game. They might have fixed that in LoL, but I doubt it.

Yea, that's my only problem with DoTA.  Too much micro.  I know DoTA was only that bad because it was kind of limited by the WC3 Map Editor.  And I also know that the micro was part of the 'skill' you had to have that made the game as long lived as it was.  But I think there's still a really great game there without all the bullshit clickfest.

8) Understanding trends (i.e.: popular paths, spots and evasion routes.)
9) Denying
10) Setting up lanes
11) When to lane switch
12) Correctly harassing

Could go on really :D

So far, the strat./tactical elements of the game dont seem to be too high on the list of priorities for most players.  (I'd go more in-depth but... NDA)
Heart the game though.
