Making sure you get as many killing blows as possible during fights is the key to advancing faster than your enemies, which is sad because it is my least favorite part of the game. They might have fixed that in LoL, but I doubt it.

Keep in mind that DotA never really had any real game design, it was just a bunch of random stuff thrown together. The Cheese. Roshan. Secret Shops (that aren't really secret). Things only really became cohesive later, and the game has steadily improved under IceFrog's management.

As such, I have no faith in the 'creators of DotA' to manage or design a good game, not because I don't think they can, but because their clame to fame isn't. Of course, I haven't tried LoL, so do take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Also, I don't think they can do it. Some of the shit in DotA was downright retarded and fucking lazy.

LoL isnt like Dota in that respect.  You cant just go on killing sprees and expect to win.  There's over-arching strategy (and timing) that you have to adhere to or you'll get owned, many times by teams with half as many kills as you.  There's also a support element that's pretty critical and those champions that do-so generally dont get kills... but typically swing games.  And lest we not forget "carry" champs, who lie in wait with no kills until lvl 16 and then rain terror on the map.

What I find interesting is that even when champs are being tested and obviously are OP-imbalanced, players get cocky and forget the point of the game.  Instead of winning the map, they farm kill stats (that ultimately dont carry over after the game; they're meaningless.  Only win/loss/leave matters).  We've routinely beaten teams with guys with 20+ kills, or guys playing the days' OP character (jax, ryze, etc.).  You pick your fights and push the map at the right times.  It's more about restraint than click-skill.

I'm normally a pretty crunch-oriented gamer so I was pretty critical of LoL before I tried it.  It's not a bad game, plus it's FREE.  Demigod is technically a more complex version of LoL, but I found it less tactically engaging, and maps took too long (and it's not free).

They really need to work on the microtrans, ranking, and chat/clan systems though.

We really need to get a name-in-game thing going, so that people are easier to find. I'm Megrim in their vent and account-name.

Edit:

My sincere apologies, I didn't realise my ']' error carried over to your post and I thought you were being deliberately ironic.

I did want to say thankyou for the excellent analysis - I'll actually give the game a look now. Players get cocky even in DotA, where the point of the game isn't a kill score, so I'm not surprised to hear about it in LoL.

DOTA gameplay is based on an old map of starcraft, called Aeon of Flux.  There are many, many maps of that type, both in WC3 and in other games; there where before dota and there have been after.
I remember a map like this for NwN1 online, named battle of the dragons , that was just awesome. LoL is just another clone, whose only aim is to speculate just like any other clone.
Im pretty sure it is gonna fail hard, as people will realize is gonna take years to reach the same balancing they are used to in dota, not to talk of the wc3 engine, which is simply awesome in stability and smoothness.

Also, the original creator of DoTa (on WC3) is Eul and afaik hes not involved in the project, just as Icefrong, the current developer, is not involved and actually left dota-allstar and made a new site.
So its more "one" of the creators of dota (guinsoo) who was the one that did the porting from Wc3 to TfT.
The other guy involved, pendragon, afaik only worked on dota-allstars website,  so hes not one of the "creators" at all.

Don't "indent" your paragraphs. Use line breaks instead.

Don't make every sentence its own paragraph.

Oh, and the map is Aeon of Strife. You've confused it with the cartoon/movie Ohhhhh, I see.

The f13 tradition of a mod telling a new poster to stop fucking up and post better is my favorite f13 tradition.  I'll never forget Shockeye brutalizing my first post when I was a wee nub.  Now people just don't read my posts since I've been here so no long and failed to improve my posting one iota.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

The fact that the mods and admins actually care about readable posts and non-intrusive signatures is a godsend in my eyes.
