New browser based game from a chinese developer.  awesome, for real

http://news.bbgsite.com/content/2009-06-24/20090624050739973.shtml

Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V development.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Anyway, I'm suitably confused. Is this licensed from Blizzard or a rip off?

I believe this is the company that used to be hosting WoW in China. At least I recall that being mentioned elsewhere.

One could imagine they're a little bit hostile after falling off the gravy train.

No. The9, not this game185 company, used to be the operator of WoW in China until Vivendi decided not to renew their license. Netease is now the operator, however the game in China is currently stuck in limbo because of legal issues. The9 is a publically traded company listed on NASDAQ. If they were to engage in that sort of obvious IP theft their stock would be hammered even more than it already is from investors fleeing because of the inevitable lawsuit from Activision Blizzard.

It still baffles me why any government would allow trade with China, or why any company would want to do so.

I do think it's funny that their rip-off of a gm car has a model name of "QQ".

It's not WoW really when you get it to load. I have no clue what it is due to my inability to read it, but not WoW. Not really.

Without China's labor prices of, well, pretty much everything, would be higher.

Even their banner art is ripped from a Defence of the Ancients: Allstars loading screen.
