Also, perhaps, a list of people you can't kill.

So, Steam has Oblivion now, a version with every expansion. Which is nice. It's still a mess of a game, but I'm playing it modless (oh yea, I've got balls, I'll enjoy the walking and walking and walking). Anyway! Still in the sewers! People you can't kill: The guards (they'll die on their own, except the black dude), the King, and killing those assassins is quite the trick. I'm not too worried about many others being invincible though. This is going to go fairly poorly for the kind peoples of the world. Oh, my characters name is Mayhem. This is going to take a long time, but I'll be taking screens of every playsession. And with that, I begin, humbly.

I approve muchly, and shall be checking in regularly.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

I kinda gave up on doing screenshots with mine. Let's face it, BG isn't that great looking a game by modern standards, and I need to add all kinds of speech balloons and shit to even indicate WTF is supposed to be going on.

Edit: Someone should do one of these for Fable. I have some really nifty screenshots laying around from when I recruited both the evil-type mercenaries, went to the bandit camp, told as many bandits as possible to follow me, then took the whole procession into town to stage the second sacking of Oakvale. There were like 15 guys running around fighting.

I would suggest doing yourself a favor and at least using that interface mod that makes it so you don't have to scroll through 32 screens just to look at your inventory. It is just about the only mod I've ever thought of as equired to play a game.

Nah, inventory is fine as it is (for me at least).

Only real problem is that the villagers and NPCs start at a bit of a higher level than you so I need to do some leveling before I go on my killing spree. How annoying. I refuse to use a map reveal and level up mod though just to go killing. This could be a good 15-20 hours away. >_< Nonetheless. We'll get their. I'll empty the entire land of annoying, ugly punks.

I guess this is as good a place to put this: The Steam version of Oblivion Deluxe ($19.99) has EVERY piece of downloadable DLC and all the expansions - including the horse armor.

Well, shit. The first NPC I decided to kill without even seeing if I could talk to him was a Moraj Tong Assassin. He just made my job a WHOLE lot easier.

So. The hunt begins. I decided the easiest route to get outfitted with the right gear for this particular brand of bloodshed was to just join the dark brotherhood. I'd run into too many unkillable NPCs (this may have been more fun in Fallout 3), which made this job... harder. Anyway!

Pretty sure my first murder is the same one everyone does. Don't know how that guy didn't see me do it. oh well!

Oh hay there, yes, your ideas do align with mine. Does the Dark brotherhood have a newsletter?

After that, I went to check out my house (which is one of the DLC things):

Not too shabby for a person such as myself.

Obviously, poor Rufio did not stand a chance. What a gimme quest. It's like clubbing seals in a barrel.

Bonus picture!

This is making me want to play Oblivion, and I'm not happy about that.  Either that or finish Fallout 3.

Is the DLC at all compelling, or is it just a bunch of stupid fluff?

I've only begun Shivering Isles, but the intro is better than anything in the original vanilla game. The additional houses are nice. Some of the new quests I've done were totally phoned in. Thing is, it was $19.99 for the game + the expansions + every bit of DLC. So it's there, I've no reason not to play them.

After playing Fallout 3, I'm not sure if there is any way I could make myself go back and play Oblivion again (I played it a lot, and tried SO hard to really like it).  Maybe if they replaced the advancement and combat system with something like SPECIAL and VATS.

I hadn't played it since the 360 launch and you know, I'm kind of enjoying the exploration. The leveling never ever bothered me for whatever reason. Combat, yea, combat outside of the ranged stuff could really use some work. Bows are excellent though.

I loved the flexibility of that game. But you could abuse the shit out of it and it was hard to resist. The magic system was just crazy. I got a few levels doing things the "hard way" as a mage, then once spell creation opened up to me I could walk around invisible while one shotting bad guys. I even created a spell that would one shot a bad guy then make me invisible again so I wouldn't have to push more than one button. Awesome game in concept. Falls apart pretty quickly.

At $20 that might be worth it.  I never played any of the expansions or DLC and it would put it in my list of Steam games.  Or I could play Fallout 3 some more.

The problem with Fallout 3, as I see it, is you can't function if you kill ALL the merchants. Whereas in Oblivion, most of them are flagged NO_KILL. I'm not sure which way I like better, but I like having merchants for the selling of things.

Remember the Aircraft Carrier city in Fallout 3?  Don't the merchants have all their wares sitting on the shelves?  Seems you could kill them and then steal all their goods.

I only ever seem to use them for health meds and for unloading my loot anyway.  I never seem to buy anything of use from these fuckers.  Of course, like with all games of this ilk, I am probably playing it wrong.

Shivering Isles was neat for a bit, but the ending bit was... odd. Didn't really fit with the rest of Oblivion at all.

Still, I had fun in the rest of the game in my neat outfit and nifty stick. Fallout3 I think may have spoiled Oblivion for me. Melting people into piles of goo is better then stealth/headshot/run away

I absolutely loved the exploration in the game myself (I love exploration in any game, one of the few things that will make me try random MMO's).  Probably the thing that kept me playing the longest.  I also enjoyed the sneak/bow combat (well, till late game).

The biggest problem with the leveling is the mob scaling.  Due to the way it works, you can level up "to fast" if you made your primary skills something that skills up easily.  So, if you tagged skills like sneak, herbalism, acrobatics, athletics, etc., which are all easy to skill up fast, but don't really impact your toughness or damage dealing (well, sneak does for the first attack), your in trouble.  You keep going up in level (and thus, every monster in the game does as well) while your combat skills aren't keeping pace.  Suddenly, your running into shit left and right that can do a crap ton of damage to you, and your attacks barely scratch it.  This leads to the later game consisting of you running around in circles for several minutes shooting arrows into some guy chasing you.  This becomes unfun fast.

I'm afraid it's nearly impossible to be a serial killer. This game isn't very... free with who you can kill. I'll do this when Fallout 3 comes out but Oblivion just isn't as much of a sandbox as I thought it was. That sorta pisses me off. Killing random nobles in the main city simply isn't fun, particularly when none of them have any loot better than what you get from the dark brotherhood and on the DLC quests.

The goods they have on display in Rivet City are in really crappy condition, the decent ones are in the merchant's inventory which has an unpickable lock. But you can kill the merchant (or enslave him heh heh heh) then loot the key off him.

I never found killing merchants in Fallout 3 a problem, I hardly ever use them anyway after a few levels. The restrictive thing in F3 is all the quest-crucial NPCs who are unkillable, you can only render them unconscious for a short time. Makes fratricide impossible  Ohhhhh, I see.

Let the game breaking begin.  And yes, the loot is horribly fucking broken in Oblivion.  Bethesda were total fucking wankers making Oblivion and handled the vast majority through some of the shittiest randomization known to man.  End result: the most profitable thing you can do in this game is get to level 25 and cruise by a bunch of ruins only killing bandits on the surface, fast travel to town, rinse, repeat.

EDIT: I still remember most of the scripting language and console commands.  If there is anything particularly retarded you want modded in/out I can probably manage it.

Looks like I can pickup tokens/discs for Point Lookout, Anchorage, and Pitt at Gamestop. As such, I do not have to deal with XBL points. As such, this will soon be revived as a Fallout 3 thread. As in, tonight. Woot.

I wouldn't necessarily count on the Point Lookout download staying available for long, it isn't actually supposed to be out til Monday or Tuesday and by reports Bethesda is pissed.

I just checked, Point Lookout is nowhere that I can find . . .

You can get the XBL point codes from gamestop stores and redeem them online as it's already up for download, it's just not showing in the marketplace.

As for PC, the guy said no such thing exists. But, you know, gamestop employees. Making gamers look dumb since 1985.

I'm severely pissed that point lookout is available at retail in redemption card before Broken Steel. In fact, I'm just pissed at Bethsoft total right now. Fuck them right in their puckered up ass. Though, from the sounds of things, Microsoft is doing just that. Tying Fallout 3 to LIVE for Windows is just...god, unbearable.

This X 10.  Jesus fuck that whole thing pisses me off.  I can't load any of saves since I got broken steel unless xbox live loads in game.  Which sucks, like 2 nights ago, when for what ever reason my PC wouldn't log into live.  So, no fallout 3 for me.

Also, its buggy as shit.  I can't actually click on half the buttons in the live menu.  I have to actually aim my mouse point about 2 inchs down the screen from some buttons in order to make the button highlight so I can press it.

ALSO, as soon as I installed broken steal and live with it, my game just freezes up every time I exit it.  I can just bring up the task manager and kill the process to get to windows fine, but it wasn't doing that at all until I installed.

Fuck them, should have been available through steam.
