the dark eyebrows and the phone kill it for me... but the eyes are nice.
There's something wrong with dark eyebrows and blonde hair? No, he is broken, and many in on this board have a hard time not being picky about girls ( and perhaps guys) that they have no shot with. If they do have a shot, as in, you know, meet them in real life, you would be dam sure that eyebrows would not be an issue. It would be some other issue like, oh I don't know, she loves the NGE or something. Me, I love the ladies. Many shapes, sizes and forums. More the better. We can puppy pile it up and ill kiss the so called imperfections. Of course I'm taken, so, love and honor stops that, but I can look dam it! EDIT: I thought babies and babes were banned from this thread.

There's something wrong with dark eyebrows and blonde hair? Unless your hair is naturally Platinum blonde, I can't imagine eyebrows looking anything other than dark. People always say mine are incredibly dark, but it's the huge contrast from my hair being blonde.

What? I'd rather say "come hither my cute little miscolored woodelf" (since her clothes are blue rather than green) than complain about the phone or the colour of her eyebrows. I know I'm usually a "glass is half-empty" kind of guy, but I wouldn't complain about little things like that. She's gorgeous.

Yeah it isn't a dead giveaway of hair dye or something, I have blond hair, darker eyebrows, a reddish moustache and a brown goatee, that's just how it happens with a lot of people.

So you're rather like this? Sorry, couldn't help it. As an apology, I offer a bulldog pup: (If this doesn't show up, I'll move it somewhere else.)

My buddy in Baton Rouge got a English Bulldog - $2k for the male puppy. Damn thing was a ball of cute and nearly indestructible. Would tumble down the stairs, run into/through the bushes when outside playing, and crashing through the kitchen on the tile floor. Hilarious, cute, and tough... if it wasn't for the price and the vet bills, yeah, I'd have one.

There's a no-kill bulldog rescue centre somewhere in Philadelphia. The fee is $500. You can also foster them, I think.

Jesus, they must not be that concerned about actually placing them.

Placement for the no-kill shelter in my area is about $150-$300 as well. It's no longer cheap to go to the local shelter to pick up a dog/cat any longer. Same with the various rescue organizations. I was thinking about about getting a second dog from the shelter or rescue and determined I could practically just buy one from a newspaper breeder for the same price.

I imagine it's partly because it costs them a lot of money to be no-kill, and partly to deter people getting a cheap dog on a whim, only to have that dog wind up back at the shelter because dogs aren't toys, but actually require some care.

There's always an adoption fee for rescues, although usually not quite so steep. It's mostly around $80 to $300 in my area and pure bred shelters are even more. It covers maintaining the shelter, vet costs, neutering, food, microchips, etc. They don't actually make money doing this. Lister cost us around $120 and the neutering was only partially paid for by the ASPCA. We got Magenta from our vet, who also rescues cats and she was $60 but everything was à la carte so she ended up costing quite a lot more. Personally, I'd rather pay for a rescue than make some puppy mill breeder rich. The fee is also considered somewhat of an assurance that the animal is going to a responsible person. If they don't charge, a lot of animals would end up with abusers. The fee is even more for children, I hear.

Maybe it wouldn't cost them so much money to feed and house all the dogs if they didn't make them so hard to adopt. I've heard dozens and dozens of stories about adopting a pet taking 1-4 months, having the shelter come to your house and 'inspect' it, and all sorts of other things. Dogs aren't toys, and I'm really not in a position to bitch about $500 since we're dropping $700 on an aussie this weekend - but if the shelters would make the dogs a bit more available perhaps they would be able to care for more dogs and place them in loving homes.
I mean really, what are the odds that a dog is adopted out and then returned? Even if its as high as 30%, that's a lot of fucking dogs in happy, healthy homes which means the shelter can take care of even more of them. This applies /especially/ to shelters that do actually euthanize dogs. PETA shelters kill something like 95% of all the dogs they take in, IIRC. Fucking hypocrites.

There is no such thing as a "no-kill" shelter. They simply transfer the pets elsewhere to be destroyed. It's a simple game of numbers; when you get overcrowded, you have to do something. It's not pretty but life's a bitch sometimes.

No, actually, there is. Probably not very many, though. We have a few in our area. They're all privately maintained through fees, donations and volunteers, and they don't transfer the animals anywhere to be killed. One of them has a woman keeping six cats and three dogs for adoption (story from the local rag), including one brain damaged cat. She's prepared to keep them all forever if that's what it takes. My sister volunteers at a wildlife rescue that only euthanises the animals if they're beyond fixing. It's very expensive. Some vets volunteer their services but no where near enough. One of the reasons my sister volunteers at a wildlife rescue rather than a pet rescue is she can't personally deal with having dogs destroyed.

There's no reason that Signe's avatars can't be both sexy AND scary at the same time. Except during that whole "feet" era, which was just disgusting.

The purebred rescue organizations aren't really shelters though, they're a bunch of completely insane breed supporter people. The process you need to go through to adopt from those is usually pretty ridiculous - on top of the high price, they will typically do home visits, make you sign a bunch of contracts, etc., before they'll let you take the dog. I'd easily believe these are true 'no kill' groups, they're not shelters in the traditional sense and because they restrict it to only their chosen breed they usually don't have an overwhelming number of dogs at any given time. They're also mostly fostered out at member homes rather than sitting in a shelter somewhere. Most of them would probably rather cut off a finger than let one of their dogs go to a kill shelter. Also, to make up for derailing:

I agree that most of the pure bred rescues are a different thing altogether. There are some exceptions, though, such as greyhound and pit bull rescue shelters. Those are much abused dogs and a lot of people feel passionate about protecting them. I never had a home visit for either of my cats and my sister, who only has rescued animals, never had one either. I did get a phone call from the ASPCA about Lister and how he was doing about two months after I got him. Some animals have naturally cute feet.

Cyber Goth is visually pleasing. I don't know anything about the tastes of someone (female) who dresses up like that though. But they sure look nice!

Bunnies have super cute feeties, it's true. Ingmar's favorite thing about bunnies is how cute they are when they wash themselves, and I tend to agree it is silly cute:

I looked like a fucking idiot this morning chasing a rabbit off the train tracks because I heard the crossing bells go off and it was insisting on trying to go through the fence that divides the commuter train from the commercial ones. Turns out it was a commercial locomotive with no cars. All that for nothing.

It's nice around here when it starts getting warm because all the bunnies come out from the woods and there's a lot of them. I've named them all Mr. Wigglenose.

Back when I was doing data entry for a payroll company, there was this fuzzy happy black bunneh who was friends to everyone in the office, she would come and say hi and be friendly, and we all thought that was the cutest thing EVER...until she BROUGHT HER BABBIES TO VISIT.

Yes! You can litter box train them. My brother in law and a couple of other people I know had a bunny. I had a rabbit for a while as a kid, but it was kept in an outdoor area. Until someone (not me!) left the cage open and our dogs ate it. It's especially easy if they've been neutered because they don't feel the urge to mark their territory. Yes, bunnies mark territory. Isn't that adorable?
