Also german shepherds don't have to have their ears cropped to stand up, although I want to say they do goofy shit like splint them to get the ears "right."

Hm, maybe that's what I confused it with.   We had a Shepherd and didn't do whatever you're supposed to, and her ears never stood upright unless she perked them.   They looked similar to your sister's collie there when they were perked.   Dobes, I do know need it done to be 'right.'   Doberman owners I've known have said something about it's better for their ears in regards to infections as well, but I don't buy it.

Yeah, Dobermans definitely have to have it done to look right. It's sort of amusing to me how much cuter and harmless they look when they have their normal ears. :P

Also, that wasn't my sister's collie, that was just a random puppy. Alex the collie has ears that point up all the way. Rather like a German Shepherd's.  awesome, for real

I had relatives who bred shepherds for a time.  They stopped when they came to the conclusion that the AKC were run by a bunch of Nazis.  Constantly demanding that certain dogs be destroyed because they would ruin the breed and nasty things like that.  That was ages ago and, evidently, they're not as bad.  I think they even accept some characteristics and even whole breeds that they once demanded be killed.  Of course, I'd still never do any sort of business with them.  It would be like saying "Oh, it's okay to hang out with Nazis now.  They stopped gassing people AGES ago!"  Who needs all that inbreeding, anyway?  Look what it did for the royal family?  I don't mind the floppy ears so much - it's the pin heads and latent serial killer tenancies that bother me.  I know, I know - I'm SO inflexible!

Too bad bears grow up. :(

The only dobermann I knew ... er ... well, she did not fit the stereotype, I tell you what. She was fat, which was hilarious, but also the biggest goddamn wuss this side of my sister's collie (my sister's collie gets upset when he squeaks his squeaky toys because ... I dunno, he thinks they're crying or something. He usually just licks them quietly.).

I can finally contribute something!

When I went to the pound today to check out kitties, I saw this adorable monster that was the property of the pound's owner:

In my father's later years, when the insanity progressed and years of being a self neglecting alcoholic recluse set in, he imagined that he owned a Keeshond named Vokker.  He talked about it all the time, right up until the end.  It was actually my aunt who owned one about forty years ago or so - I'm not sure because I never met it although I've seen pictures.  We did almost get one ourselves when I was about ten.  Almost.  Anyway, they look like this:

The gf has had this type of dog since I have known her. Her first was almost enitrely black with few lighter spots. The one we have now is almost that exact color pattern, though her snout is going grey now that she is elderly. She actually has her cute moments...for a dog.

Voodoo's grief title finally makes some sense to me. Many grats on the small wrinkly one.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe
