I don't know if this one has been posted yet. It's probably as old as the internet.

It's not so cute when you realize it is just practicing.

Yeah but if it stays that size I'll take two.

It's a baby thornback ray.

Rays are the single most awesome type of fish ever. Manta Rays even beat out hammerheads as the coolest, most awesome fish in the sea and it is my firm ambition to go diving with them at some point in my life.

If you go to the Grand Caymans, there is a sandbar that a buncha rays hang out on. It's only about waist deep and you can walk around with all the rays.. they are pretty good at keeping from hitting you, but occasionally you'll get nicked by one you never saw coming. It's fun but it's also a big cruise ship tourist stop, so it's usually very crowded with stupid tourists *and* rays.

While on Maui we did a helicopter tour of the island and the Big Island. On the way back from the Big island we saw a bunch of manta rays in the water below us, they were huge! We saw probably 30-40 in a square mile or so.

I too want to dive with them one day.

Yeah there was a documentary on the BBC recently about a young female biologist down in Mozambique where she studies one particular reef that attracts loads of mantas (she also got to discover that there's two separate species, regular reef mantas and giant mantas). Only time I've seen them was on a liveaboard in Egypt one night looking over the side and saw the silhouettes of two of them pass under the boat.

Also to contribute to the thread rather than just discussing how awesome fish are: (warning, probably only daww worthy if you know something about Batman)

It's a fennec fox, it's just got floppy ears because it's still little, I think. Kinda like german shepherd puppies:

Shepherds need their ears to be cut for them to stick up all the time. Same with Dobes.  Cut the ears, dock the tails.

Some breeds the AKC doesn't make be clipped (Great Danes, for example? Pretty sure?) yet people do it anyway, so it's not all on them. It bugs the crap out of me, though.

Yeah, what she said.  And Danes don't have to have cropped ears anymore.  My parents never cropped the ears of the ones they had and I thought the dogs were much cuter looking.

That said, that fox and those GSD puppies are adorable!

Also german shepherds don't have to have their ears cropped to stand up, although I want to say they do goofy shit like splint them to get the ears "right." Same with pinning collie ears so they'll be tipped instead of stand up straight. My sister's collie BROKE FREE of his and she didn't care since he's a pet, not a show dog, and so now he looks "wrong" although most people can't put their finger on why. <3
