Oh I know where it comes from. It's an old, old Japanese myth, one that I was aware of before watching the movie. All the magic powers of the tanuki are stored in their balls. Still, it's one thing to be aware of it and another thing to see it in all its glory projected on a large screen. It also makes one wonder how that particular myth got started.

I think of it as the same as bunnies. They are so cute! So cute. But they are also hell of tasty in a ragout with wild mushrooms and pappardelle. But I have never bought a living bunneh and killed it myself, I only buy them at the butcher.

Actually, I don't get dogs that counter surf. Mine's never done it and he has to be seriously coaxed to even put his paws on the counter when we allow him to jump up and get a treat from there. |
