So inFAMOUS or InFamous comes out tomorrow (tuesday, may 25th). I am going to grab a copy on my way home. I am pretty excited about this game. I played through the demo twice. I really enjoy open world games. I am hoping this will be everything Crackdown should have been. The only thing this is lacking seems to be coop. The only thing I like more than a good open world game, is one with good coop, like Saints Row 2 or Crackdown. See GTA4 on how not to do multiplayer.
Anyway, ill post impressions here tomorrow evening.

Pre-ordered it on amazon with release day delivery, so hopefully it will come sometime before I go to work in the evening tomorrow.

It's major releases such as this that makes me realize I'm not tied to the hype machine.

I didn't really see a lot of hype on this game until the last couple weeks when the reviews started coming out.

I am hoping Best Buy gets a lot in, cause I have a giftcard, but I never preorder form Best Buy. Although the shiny Gamestop preOrder lightning blades look kind of cool.

I was interested, but the in-game footage leaves me cold. I'll wait for Prototype and Batman: Arkham Asylum, thanks.

Choose Your Own Adventure Superhero/Supervillain Roaming game. I think? I don't know.. I didn't play the demo, but know the hype, and saw it in some cardboard boxes at Wal-Mart, so I got them to ring it up for me. Most of these Sony exclusives have turned out pretty fun so far, so I'll give it a shot.

Saw a review the other day that didn't seem to think very highly of the game, so will be interesting to see what Morfiend thinks of it.
Their main dig was that this game is another example of a sandboxy title that tries to implement a moral system and then does a crap job of balancing/implementing said system. Apparently the game is one annoying cockstab after another if you try to play as a good guy while as a bad guy you can just rampage through the city causing havoc as you see fit.

I played through the demo like 4 times. Yeah, I have nothing else to play. And I quite enjoyed it. But in the demo you have no real interaction with the alignment system. It just changes you from full good to full evil, for different missions. The controls are very tight once you get the hang of them, although I am not really sure why they make you go to aim mode to use most of them. I guess I will find out once I play the game.
I will post initial impressions tonight.

Yeah, if I understand the review, basically you are rewarded heavily for being strongly good or evil, so being neutral is not the way to go. However, if your trying to be good you have to be very careful because if any of your crazy lightning abilities happen to accidentally hit an innocent bystander you take a nosedive towards neutral. So essentially the gameplay becomes very tedious and frustrating if your trying to play a would be hero.

I'd call that pretty realistic myself. If nothing else, it goes to show exactly how hard it is to NOT have collateral damage when dealing with super powers.

What makes you think it's supposed to be realistic? It's a game where the main character can crap lightning, ffs.

Impressions will have to wait till tomorrow. The Orlando v Cleveland game took up most of my evening and now the GF is watching the TV. I get it when she is done.

Well I'm not far into it, just doing missions that are keeping me on buildings a lot. I pick off dudes on other roofs with lightning bolt, or get there and just beat the shit out of them. I was tempted to boost my first skills in lb, but i took damage reduction and melee strength. I'm sure that eventually, your dude becomes destructive in all aspects ala God of War, but I'm pretty sold on taking a conventional route of close up fighting in this game. It could be because of some flaws.. The targeting isn't exactly my forte, at least on the fly in the middle of crowds.. And on top of that, the game is a bit of drab grey and dark browns we see in so many games. So bystanders aren't easy to catch.
All that said, it's a cool game. If anyone liked the Spidey series, they'll like this. It's not as aerial - more like Daredevil or Batman type of stunts.. But the entire environment can be traversed, down to the smallest crack in a wall.
I'm a little torn on the limited powerset - Although Lightning is always cool. But this game would even be cooler with more customization of appearance, powers/etc.

Sucker Punch did the Sly Cooper series so I'm expecting a lot of platforming. However, GTA + Force Unleashed = Buy.

That pretty much mirrors my experience with this game. The bystanders are particularly tough to miss when they insist on running directly in the line of fire for extended periods. The game it reminds me of most is Crackdown (pretty high praise), though you sub out the ability to jump 50' in the air for the ability to climb pretty much anything if you're willing to spam the X button long enough, supernatural balance and a good bit of 'platforming assist' - you get 'sucked towards' tightropes and ledges while jumping/falling. The only thing that I really dislike is the lack of an ability to easily drop from standing on a ledge to hanging on the ledge - you have to jump off/away and then maneuver back to catch the ledge, which gets annoying when a lot of the shard collectibles are situated perfectly to be collected from a hanging position.

I played it a bit last night, the game's fun as hell. Pedestrians running through the fight can get a bit annoying, especially since I'm playing the hero the first time through, but it helps with the immersion in my opinion. I don't think there's a karma hit for getting them in the crossfire, but I couldn't say either way, I'm too busy shooting lightning at Reapers. If there is, I'm sure walking around the scene of a battle afterwords and healing the injured covers it, because I seem to be advancing pretty well. My only regret, really, is that Amazon seems to have not been included in the group of retailers that give out the gigawatt blade unlock code for preorders. I like charging in to melee range.
The dropping down thing was a bit annoying at first, but I've gotten the hang of it pretty well. Overall, the few annoyances I've had are pretty easy to overlook.

Heh I barely do the drop thing, but I was on tall building and some reaper was shooting at me from on top of a gas station roof. Got tired of his ass and leaped hundreds of feet with the thunder drop. Exploded the entire fucking gas station Then my buddy calls me up, is all "HOLY HELL, what was that explosion??" Nice little touch.

There is, I deranked from Champion randomly blowing up some cars that killed a few people. It just doesn't show you the point hit on screen when you do it.

The karma hit for civilians is minor, and easily made up for by just healing the large volume of random wounded in the streets. They DO have the annoying habit of running across the street in the middle of a firefight though. Dumbest civilians ever.
I'm really digging the game in general. The first boss was <3, the platforming is interesting while not punishing (and I hate platforming..), and the checkpoint system is downright handholding in a good way most of the time. I did have one instance of it reloading me into a really really horrible spot with everything respawned around me.
The second gang is a little freaking annoying though.

I'd play this on pc, it looks like fun. I would enjoy it on ps3 if not for the whole aiming with a thumbstick bullshit.

I'll be the first to say it's not much improvement over other roaming games and their targeting. But you're still probably depriving yourself of a decent game. hell, probably the best games on PS3 are thumbstick shooting. MGS, Uncharted, Resistance, R&C, KZ2.. probably something else I forget. Good shit that will never make it to PC.

I'm okay with that. After Gears and Rainbow Six I've come to the conclusion that shooters on a console can go fuck themselves. They flat-out just don't work as well, and while I've somewhat gotten past the awkward stage it's still a shitty control scheme for that type of game. This doesn't apply to platforming, though. Games like Crackdown I don't even really consider shooters, and enjoy them more sitting in the lazy boy than I would at my desk chair.

That's writing off quite a few good games though. Gears included. Shit man, it isn't that unplayable. All of them are quite enjoyable despite this problem.

There are so many games I'm not playing or getting around to playing that there is no reason beyond lack of funds and time. So anything that forces me to aim on the console, esp something that puts so many enemies on random rooftops and makes me find them without mouselook? Fuck that.
I still haven't gotten Witcher, which I really want to play, just because I think I should finish up some other stuff and Bioshock ended up being too boring to finish.
I got the PS3 for Street Fighter, PS2 rpgs and Bluray.

Aiming's pretty trivial. What DOES annoy me is the shield power's binding, and expected usage.
So to hover down while shielded requires me to move both thumbsticks while using R1 and R2? This game seems to have messed up my R buttons, too. About halfway through the second boss, my R2 started becoming less responsive, and later on R1 was being finnicky about triggering in sewers. Sigh.
Really though, it's fun. Third island is looking to be a letdown compared to the others.

Fair enough! The pool of PS2 rpgs is almost limitless still for me, but I'm dying for more PS3 RPG's. Really thought more would be here by now.

PS3 means more Ratchet & Clank. 360 means less Ratchet & Clank and more random lockups.

I think the aiming feels quite smooth in this game. I find it much easier to quickly hit dudes with precision than I did with Uncharted, a game I never heard any aiming complaints about. And it's a far cry from how awful the Dual Shock aiming feels in Killzone 2. I wasn't going to get this game after playing the demo. But then I kept playing. It really grew on me, so I ended up picking up the game. What I really enjoy most is just the effortless movement through the world. Combat is fluid and just feels right.
