At least they haven't made him look like Marky Mark.

Really ?

Did you play the same game I did ?

I thought it was awesome and far, far superior to the first one.  Which I loved.

Hmmm.

Theme song alone, "Late Goodbye", was worth the sequel.

Almost everyone liked MP2 at the time. Because it is fun and whatnot.

But there was a beret committee meeting about 18 months ago where MP2 was retrospectively declared uncool on suspicion of having production values. This despite it being the only Max Payne game that does not have stupid jumping puzzle dream sequences.

It is a harsh world we live in, but what can you do?

I couldn't get into either of them, but they came out while I wasn't playing many games and well, I guess I played them too late to enjoy them. I'll probably enjoy this one.

You know what's missing from this?

A trailer of some kind.

When Blizzard announces something, boy howdy. By comparison, this feels like a mouse squeaking within the walls of the gaming industry instead of a "OMG" moment it should be. Especially given Max Payne is pretty cinematic, I'd expect a cinematic trailer.

If I was working at Rockstar on this game I'd be ashamed of how this title was announced.

I knew I didn't like Max Payne 2 about a quarter of the way through it, without the aid of a beret.  Two things killed it for me:

1) Bullet time mechanics were lame.  Between filling up the meter faster and having time freeze while you reloaded, every big fight consisted of me walking out into the middle of the room, starting the bullet time, and then slowly and deliberately headshotting the bad guys one by one.  It lacked the cinematic flair of the fights in the first game, which usually took some sussing to find the best approach for.

2) Plot didn't grab me.  In fact, I can't remember a single thing from it other than Mona dying at the end, again.  Which apparently she doesn't if you beat it on super hard mode?  I didn't have the patience to find out.

Hm - is this one being made by Rockstar or Remedy? I know Remedy is busy with Alan Wake.

hmm....

Loved the first two. Though Remedy is out, and apparently Rockstar can't program or optimise for shit on the PC anymore. And have horrific DRM.

Yeah, the performance of this on the PC is the deal breaker for me.

Also, fuck Rockstar if the PC version is not out day 1 with the console versions.

Quote from: Rockstar
Max Payne 3 will be available in winter 2009 for Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 and PC.

And I think people are reading too much across from GTAIV performance (and game design) being shit.

But I'm also nervous about Remedy not being involved, about the dodgy looking splash on the website, and about Rockstar not having done anything worthwhile since Vice City.

Oh, you know what, I get to say fun things here also. Rockstar Vancouver isn't Rockstar San Diego. Ohhhhh, I see.

Edit: I should clarify - I'd rather the Red Dead Revolver team work on this. Or at the very least, Rockstar North.

Yeah, I'm nervous about Remedy not working on this.

I'm sure they can steal a few people from the Alan Wake team to hang out around the Max Payne 3 offices for a while and nudge them in the right direction.

I've seen this situation happen at studios.

It doesn't fix things. That's why all the "Bioware has sent people down to Austin" business that gets thrown around does absolutely not a goddamn thing to change my tune.
