A interesting post on the official forums that goes into discussion of what is behind the casting lag followed by two dev responses (one from Mark)

WAR Forum post: http://forums.warhammeronline.com/warhammer/board/message?board.id=bugs_careers&thread.id=1136
Original VN post: http://vnboards.ign.com/warhammer_online_age_of_reckoning_general_board/b22997/110505193/p1

Some highlights:

1) People really don't understand latency.
2) Mythic really doesn't have any idea how to fix the client/server lag. (ie: not going to be fixed soon)
3) Mythic coded in a knee jerk reaction without thinking for the consequences (Mythic seconds)
4) Mark throws PTS testers under the bus.

Quote
If you were part of the PTS (or saw the feedback from it) when we tested this fix in 1.06 I think, feedback was very positive.  The feedback we've had since, especially in high load/latency situations as been different.  We wouldn't have put in that change originally if feedback on it was bad.  That's one of the reasons we desperately want people to get on to the PTS when we put up new versions so we can see how things will play under close to LIVE conditions.

Quote of the first post in the spoiler.

Good stuff.  If Mythic was your doctor, he'd put makeup on the rash you visited him for than call you a liar.

Wow.  That is bad.  Got me thinking....

...honest non-rant'y question: has anyone ever hooked up WAR to a basic Windows test harness?  Even freeware for thread pool performance?  or memory?

I don't own the title otherwise I would.  I did it for HG:L and that was enough for me to run away fast (at least 3 bad memory leaks after launch).

What he failed to mention is that it is wrong because the user wasn't fooled.

Want even better Mythicmath? Remember the armor changes they made mid way through the game? Midgard leather was weak to not only slash but fire? Yeah that put the F-U in fun.

Wonder who had the tables on that bullshit? Sure, let's give Infs a chance to make 20% more damage to SBs... awesome. Dragonfang was already laughable.

You mean Dragonfang, the thrusting attack?  And Midgard leather was resistant to thrust.  Sounds like someone is still stewing over the Left Axe nerf.   Raspberry

Sorry, I did not think that casting lag would apply to opening my backpack.
Or picking up barrels.

I feel the grind already (Lvl 4). Not good.  why so serious?

In pvp a half second IS a big deal.  We used to tweak gear in templates to gain a half second in casting time and it would often alter the outcome of close fights.  On another note, casting lag will even further the chasm between melee and cast dps and will make my life as a healer even worse than it is already.

Goes like this.

Played at release. Cancelled. Played the 10 day trial.  Cancelled.  Got an AIM from an old DAoC friend recently and resubbed to play healer for them.

Mostly I play LotRO.  Every once in a while I'll play WAR to chat.

Sorry meant to have those on separate thoughts, I'll hit enter next time between changing thoughts.

-Dragonfang Thrust specced Infs already gave SBs and NSs headaches.

-When they re-did the armor tables so Slash specced Infs could use Legendary Heaters it sucked doubly so.

On topic, they've already locked the old cast lag thread on the VN, now they are threatening to lock the new one too! Heh.

I'm curious how he managed to use a hacked client on the live servers, though.  Makes one wonder if there are any other hacked clients that could work with the live servers.
