List looks great, probably too much of a PITA to undertake but release dates for those games that have been released would rock.

Debating what is and is not a sandbox is one thing, but I have a hard time labeling something lacking classes/levels/XP as Diku.

if it makes it easier release year would be good enough, I just think it would be nice to know which games are older and which are the newer releases.

This. Seeing what year it came out would give you a ballpark.

More observations. I'd change things myself rather than expecting someone else to, but that would be presumptuous and I don't want to mess anything up anyway.

* Is Myst Online still alive? I thought that finally died again.

* I'm still seeing UO listed as Diku, which is kinda silly.

* Planetside has a design methodology listing of Diku and a genre listing of First-Person Shooter. This is sort of at odds with the more thematic genre listings of everything else, categories like Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, and Historical. I would suggest changing the methodology for Planetside to Diku/FPS, and the genre to Sci-Fi.

* If "All over the map" is a valid genre listing for Valkyrie Sky (whatever that is) then maybe it ought to apply to Second Life as well, since it's pretty much the definition of not having a set coherent theme.

I'm just doing a bit of searching before I start this, if it looks like I can get the Month and Year, I'll do it. Would people care about the exact day if it's available?

Re: Football SuperStars

I don't think London is a country.

Scotland you can get away with for All Points Bulletin.  I thought 'Re' under Dark and Light was a mistake but it turns out they're based out of Reunion Island, though you can't tell that from the game's website.  Technically doesn't that make the game French?

Great work, though.  Will there also be an MMO graveyard section?

Over and out.

Isn't. Weird how some companies just put that and leave it though.

Just do Month and Year of the official launch. It's easier to deal with than trying to find the exact day (and then there might be arguments about early entry schemes).

It did die, but the devs threw it out to open source.

Fair enough on the exact day. Also, thanks for posting about Myst, Unsub. That's why I've left it on the list.

Would be better to list the release dates as YYYY.MM.DD instead of MM.DD.YYYY, as the former will chronologically sort properly.

You mean alphabetically sort properly, if it was a chronological sort using real date fields format wouldn't matter.

In that string format, an alphabetic sort becomes congruent with a chronological sort. If you want to get pedantic, it always "alphabetically" sorts properly. It's just that an alphabetic sort does not logically result in a chronologically-ordered list when using most date-string formats.

Would you prefer I wrote "... as the former will result in a chronologically-ordered list when sorted"?

I was going more for use a date field and SQL to sort it then you can display whatever the FotM is.  Formatting shouldn't be allowed to dork up how your sort functions.  Then again can always go with your way and explode/rebuild what gets displayed after the sort has occurred, it's pretty much the same result if you do that.

Half as a reminder to myself to bring it up again when the time comes for you guys to work on Broken Dreams, half for your enjoyment:

http://rpgvaultarchive.ign.com/features/previews/panterra.shtml

That was a crazy one. I never got a "beta" key myself, but I know lots who did.

Not to be forgotten in the BDP should be oldies but goodies like Underlight, Kesmai/Isles, Shadows of Yserbius, AOL's Neverwinter Nights.

Except we're not dealing with tables that exist in a SQL backend here, we're dealing with some text on a wiki page that's sorted by Javascript.

Yes, nothing would be wiser than ditching the entire wiki infrastructure and writing your own from scratch so you can custom sort a single column.

I blundered over this thread again searching for something else. I still want to know what definition of "diku" covers UO that isn't so broad it just becomes a synonym for MMO. Since apparently being a diku doesn't require classes, levels, experience points, tank/heal/DPS group combat, aggro management, or raids.

(Damn you, anti-bandwidth theft measures!)

No really. Other suggestions I posted were implemented, so I know I wasn't wholly ignored. Someone, presumably you, looked at my list and went "Okay that thing WUA said about changing Planetside's genre and methodology entries? Solid, I will totally do that. But the other thing about changing the UO methodology entry? Balls to that, it's diku baby!" Which is especially weird since Ashen Empire is listed as sandbox.
