New murder mystery show starring Nathan Fillion premiering tonight (Monday, 3/9) on ABC. He's a murder mystery writer that helps the NYPD solve, uh, murder mysteries. Based on the first look, it looks pretty bad but hey it's Nathan Fillion

It's like, what? Murder She Wrote with a cute guy instead of a sweet old granny?

Feels more like they are trying to channel Moonlighting than Murder She Wrote.

Ah. So there's a built in love interest, too. Poor old Murder She Wrote granny never had that, did she? So unfair.

Yea the NYPD detective he works with is female and she's a big fan of his books, having read even the crappy ones.

It's like they are stealing plot series ideas from the joke shows you see in "The Simpsons".

Yeah, I want to like this because it's Nathan Fillion, but it just looks really predictable and crappy. I'm imagining Fillion's charisma is the only thing that would make it remotely watchable, but it's on Monday night when my DVR is pretty full, so it'll probably get missed.

As much as I like Nathan Fillion. He hasn't had a show last past like 13 episodes since Firefly and Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place.

That Fox show he was in with him forced to do that cross country race had some potential. It was better than Prison Break, at least. Fox axed it right quick, though.

Okay the full episode was better. I like Nathan's character. The detective I'm still not sure about.

I kinda liked that show, supposedly there was going to be a 2-hour wrap up episode during the summer after it was axed, but it never happened as far as I know. Castle was a good show to have on in the background. Wife liked it and I didn't think it was terrible.

Have you tried the internet? It's made out of millions of people missing the point of everything and then getting angry about it

Show was good, probably would not watch it without Fillion though, fortunately it does not feel like a cop show.

Geez. I thought it was terrible. I found the acting incredibly phony, especially the main character.

Ah, duh, didn't see this thread. Nor did I realize the show actually started last week. Damned time-shifting.
I liked the first episode. Nathan Fillion did a good job as a Pscyhe-like who wasn't trying so hard for validation. Kate Beckett also, but I would have preferred a bit more stand-offishness for the first couple of episodes. This is definitely an assychronous unrequited love setup, but they can't jump into that too quickly or it becomes a soap.
I'm with Fargull though: with Fillion, I probably wouldn't watch it. And I agree with Signe that the acting could have been better, but I give him a LOT of latitude because of Firefly.

I don't think the censors would allow them to do that

I'm pretty pleased by this. I had been ignoring this but after watching this with the wife I may start watching this more consistently.

If you are a Nathan Fillion fan it's worth watching just for him. Stana Katic's character, Detective Kate Beckett, is still kind of "eh" for me, though I blame the writers for that (there's very little that's remarkable about her character that would make a world-famous whodunit writer want to base a character on her). The best interactions are actually between him and his daughter. I'd watch a show with just the two of them and maybe the mother.

Yea, the show improved over the season. Particularly Kate. But it wasn't a good start for her anyway.
Definitely agree the heartwarming home stuff is actually handled pretty well. Heck, my wife and I both thought the mother's speech about body image was really a very head-on description of it, translated for guys.
I also a like that it's not the usual 37 minutes of discovery for 5 minutes of wrapup like some of the other similar shows. It's nice to see them get mislead and be wrong, and for Castle to not just be a Monk-esque savant.

I'm finding it not so bad. It's like a better The Mentalist.

It's sad that I'm tempted, but I'm curious if there actually is a sex scene on page 105.

Last night's show was fucking hilarious with the Firefly references.
This show's just fun to watch. You can't take it too seriously, although some of the case twists are pretty good.

Rise from the dead!
So, not sure who all still watches this. I think it's the best cop show on TV atm.
Anyway last episode has Castle going hardcore, it was probably the best episode in awhile. Can't wait for part 2.

I've been watching it all along, and I like it well enough to keep watching. The long-term arcs (romance, family, etc.) are mostly pretty 'meh', but each episode manages to be at least decent and sometimes very good.
Fillon does pretty good at playing the wild theorizer who still manages to be actually useful to the investigations, and what's-her-name that plays Kate is a good foil and straightman. It's a watchable detective whodunit series.

I still do! It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm glad they finally got over the "will they?, won't they?" stuff and had Castle and Beckett snogging in the open. I really like Stana Katic, even in The Spirit, playing the Frank Miller "girl that has a gun fetish" archetype.

I didn't realize she (Katic) was Canadian, I only remembered her for roles where she had european accents, and thought she had to study up to do an 'American' accent.
