Well, you get skill and attribute points. I haven't used the skill points since those are far more specific to what they do, but I dumped some points into the core attributes because they give +1 to everything under that attribute. As such, yea, I used some points.

I figure if I spend all my points now on stuff I'm doing now, I'll get XP faster so I can get more points.  We'll see if I end up wishing later that I'd hoarded them all to put into something that's useless now but vital later.   why so serious?

I think there is a respec type system in place. I do not think its an all at once respec though.

I don't understand how people are level 8 already. I've been pretty fierce in my ability to keep my character doing shit and right now I'm about to hit level 5 in an hour and I'm level 4 in dueling. Perhaps I'm doin it wrong.

Pick jobs that provide maximum XP yield (different jobs give different amounts).  Max out your skills for those jobs so you get more out of them.  Switch between jobs with similar yields so your motivation doesn't drop.  Do quests, since those give you lots of bonus XP.

That seems to be the recipe for optimal XP gain, anyway.  Are you doing that?

As far as I can tell, yes.

I had a few hours of free time yesterday to grind picking sugar but since then all of my time is being spent doing stuff the newbie quests want me to do. Perhaps straight grinding is more efficient than doing these quests.

People like me are probably also using RMT to max their energy usage and XP gain. If I was luckier on some items I'd be Lv. 8 as well.

Don't worry about placing stats in useless stuff. At Lv. 14 you can respec for $1 a point, but not all at once (more you do at one time, more it costs).

Ahhh right. I forgot about the RMT goodies you can get. I'm not sold enough on the game yet to put real money into it.

I'm not sure if it counts as "fun", but it doesn't have any "unfun" like most web MMOs do.  As in, it lets me queue up a couple of jobs to last a few hours and walk away instead of having to babysit my character.  So that's something.

I agree with the apathy towards the "fun"; it's the reason I hadn't bothered posting that I started playing. For now its something I dick around on in class, or during downtime in WoW.

That said, I found it amusing that the GOAL of a quest was to ding level 2. Usually that's either a Pre-req or a reward, not an objective.

I completed all the quests I'm capable of and still am only Lv. 8 when I was Lv. 9 on World 7. Probably because I had found some nice equipment that boosted all the right stats.

So right now I'm sitting on $200, and that doesn't include stuff I can sell. We should have enough to FOUND a town between all of us, but not enough to really do anything with it just yet.

So do we need to found or join a town in order to sell? I have a ton of trash sitting in my inventory doing nothing.

I think so, yeah.

What class/portrait are people thinking?   It seems like the class doesn't affect your game THAT much (it's just a 10% bonus here or there), so I'm going to just try to get an avatard that's different from everyone else's.   awesome, for real

I'm thinking adventurer or duelist.

As far as build goes, I'm thinking of doing a dex/cha hybrid with a pretty split point spread between traps, appearance, tactics and shooting. The reasoning for this is that there's synergy for that combo at most phases of the game. I won't be "spiky" - i.e., I won't qualify terribly early for most jobs - but I'll be OK at dueling and I'll be able to go pretty smoothly through the progression.

Oh, shit. Age of Conan but better?

I am thinking Worker may not be the way to go since more PvP elements are making their way into the game. The only class that gets a serious advantage in combat is a Soldier because of the 50% bonus to Tactics.  I am leaning towards Adventurer though because of it's "Can do anything equally well" type setup. Those class bonuses need to be revisited. Duelist is OK but all it really is is doing more faster, not really better at dueling.

At least you're getting XP right? Things dry up between Lv. 8 - 10.

We can setup the town and you can donate it to the town Treasury. I'm at $244 so I'm pretty close to pulling this off.

We can do one of two things:

1. Get a General Store going so we (and everyone around us) can start selling items. We can use Founder Towns for Hotel resting.
2. Get a Hotel going so we can sleep for free, perhaps farther away and in a separate county from the starting areas in anticipation of fort battles.

I can browse World 7 and look for good locations in the right 3 quadrants. The farther west we go, the longer it'll take us to get out there but the more isolated we'll be.

My opinion? Make it as isolated as possible, find a quadrant with good resources but nearly no one around. Who really cares about making money from the hotel anyway? I'll head out there the moment you give a location.

You can't make money from the hotel yet. I just want to make sure we have the money to BUILD one if we're tossing it out in the boonies.

When I get $300 I'll start getting serious about finding a town spot.

Well, scaring away crows led me to feeding pigs or some shit. Whatever, I still don't have a ham or a raven feather. But I did get this from the pigs - which has 0% luck or whatever.

I am OK with this.
