About all I do is log in once a day and do a few hours of grave robbing.

Word.  My w1 and w5 characters are doing nothing but high luck jobs (grave robbing, robbing settlers, train robbing, peace negotiations, bounty hunting, selling guns, ambush stagecoach) trying to get a walking stick and a pearl choker.  No luck yet, although my w8 character has gotten two of each without really trying.

So, if anyone wants Belle Starr's Derringer, here is how you get it (I did this on 3 characters this morning after finding out about it last weekend):

1) Do Maya's "Billy the loser" quests.  They aren't that hard.
2) Log in on a Thursday morning (I heard 10am GMT, but I got it at 7:30am Pacific, so it might adjust for your timezone)
3) Wear a fancy item of clothing, no weapon, and equip a newspaper.  Check the saloon for a new quest from Maya.
4) You have to duel Billy while unarmed, so stack your dodge bonuses and cross your fingers.

And here's Hernando's Sword if you haven't already gotten it:

1) You have to have picked the shitty Waupee option in two of the earlier quests.  If you didn't, so solly.
2) On a Sunday, have no weapon and equip a song book.  Check the saloon for a new quest from Waupee.
3) Now that you have note 3, you should get a quest from Henry.  Notes 1 and 2 are job drops; rob lots of graves.
4) Profit!

After reading some of the posts here (probably the last 4 or so pages), I decided to give this a try.  Of course, I have no clue what the hell I am doing.

Any advice for the total newb?

I chose "Adventurer" and am now Level 14.  I'm basically just doing quests as I the jobs allow me to.  I am in a town but haven't really done anything there either.  Since I have no goal, I have no plan.  As I said before, any advice would be welcome.

If you don't want to hear the answer -- don't ask the question.

Sounds like you're doing it right.  My only piece of advice is that when you have a quest where you can either get more money or help Waupee, help Waupee.  Any other mistake you might make can probably be undone.  (Well, that and don't sell any unique items you get from quests, but that's pretty obvious.)

There's other stuff like what sorts of skills are useful to help you level up quickly, but IMO it's more fun to figure that out on your own, and respeccing isn't that hard.  That said, starting as a trapper and migrating to shooter is a very popular strategy.

Equip products you get from jobs. Check the saloon. At least the following start quests when equipped:

Incidently, Innogames has a new Facebook app called WestWars.

Looks like they used much of the same art.

I'm liking this new "random trader" mechanic.  New button on your inventory screen, opens up a portable "shop" with 8 items that rotate every 24 hours.  Another good alternative to town-hopping to buy stuff, as long as you aren't in a big rush.

Does anyone want Trammel (fully upgraded world 8 town near Bat County)? I'm the last one standing and thinking it won't be long before my apathy towards the game leads to my account going inactive.

A recent patch added two new town buildings.

Market: Server-wide auction house that lets you buy/sell anything, including job products.
Sheriff: Server-wide bounty board.  Multiple bounties on the same target stack up to make one big bounty.

Haven't tried the bounty thing yet, but the market is AWESOME if you're waiting for a rare drop and somebody else has found extras.  I blew $75k on a "lump of dirt" that's a rare quest item.   awesome, for real

I can't believe you're still playing this game.  If they'd have had the bounty board up way back when it would have been a vastly different game.  I also would have died a lot.  And by a lot, I mean a lot more.

The level cap has been raised too, and a bunch of ridiculously high difficult jobs have been added (thus wrecking my perfect "do any job" build, but oh well).

The fort is under attack (by some friends of FoM) and low on defenders.  You don't gotta be online, but if you've got a character with a fort gun feel free to log in and park yourself on a wall or tower so your dude can plink away at the invading heathens.

Yay, Reg is here!

Note that you probably want to park yourself on a wall, tower, or building (something that gives a bonus) -- although in theory we want to defend the flag, standing on or near the flag gives you a huge disadvantage in combat.  Better to stand someplace that gives you a good vantage point on the flag so you can shoot enemies approaching it (since then THEY'LL have the disadvantage, you're sure to kill them before they can capture it, as long as you aren't killed first by someone else).

I will print it, cut out the shirt and eat that.

Alternatively, I can put it on a microsd card.

We will figure it out when someone hits level 109.

Still waiting for schild to man up and eat a rag shirt.

Oh hey, new update also includes crafting.  Unfortunately you have to pick a single crafting profession and then you're locked into it, and I'm going to guess that one of them turns out to be clearly better than the others once all the craftables are known.  So I'm going to hold off until the research is in.
