The official word on Boardgamegeek.com is that this is boxed awesomeness. I own it, though haven't played it yet, and from what I can gather it looks like a great co-op game with tons of theme and a traitor aspect that might not rear its head until halfway through the game.

It is in fact RAD. Even more fun is using BSG toys in place of counters: As you can see here Apollo (me) is trying to hold things together in space and not doing too well. Tigh is drunk in CIC or Weapons as usual, and Roslin is doing Rosliny things. Come to find out she was the frakkin toaster. Which is probably why we have been boarded. Also not pictured: Tyrol facepalming when I got blown up in space yet again and he had to repair my damned fighter for the second time already.

This is a great game! Really captures the paranoia of the show; who's a cylon? In our group, the cylon players have won 2/3 of the time. Anyone else see this happening? I'm curious.

We need a board game thread. I've wanted to get back into them for a while.

Fuck a thread - that's only going to make me want to play or even worse, walk down to the FLGS and buy more games that will then shit on my shelf since I can't get anyone around here to play.

A co-worker is getting a board gaming night going, I've really wanted to get this game to bring along: http://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Flight-Games-VA09-Arkham/dp/B000ALCC5KWe're also considering some M:tG, but limited to cards we have, too many rules changes. WotC sent us some stuff, some lame D&D version and some M:tG cards. He's got Carcasonne (sp) and I want to check that out.

I haven't played Arkham. I have their Talisman expansion and Arkham though. Arkham rocks but you spend more time setting that game up than you do playing other board games. The sheer number of cards and tokens gets a bit overwhelming.

Why not just turn the tabletop RPG forum nobody posts in and turn it into general tabletop gaming? That way it can be about all fun (and not so fun if its D&D 4th edition or nWoD when played by Camarilla rules) types of games that usually don't require a computer type machine to play. I can post more of my gaming stuff there that nobody will read or care about!

As the progenitor of that forum, I would support this move.

I own quite a few FFG games, but I very rarely play them. Not a fan of FFG, their games tend to be pretty but bloated and tedious and, in extension, take far too long time to play for what you get. I prefer owning three games with distinctly different game systems that I can play in 2 hours, than one huge ass game with all three systems that takes 4 hours. Subsequently, I will light firecrackers in my ears if I ever get the notion to have a night of Descent again. Did play Stone Age this Tuesday though. That was a fun, clean game with some great wooden bits.

Yes, some of FFG's games are like that, but they do have a nice number of games that are not: Kingsburg Cosmic Encounter Blue Moon Ingenious Lord of the Rings: Confrontation Talisman (too long and boring though) World of Warcraft Adventure Game Wings of War Almost all of the Silver Line games too..

I just took two total non-dorks who've never seen the show, never played the game, and got them to play BSG till 5am (humans won) and had them saying "frak" every two seconds. They both said it was the best boardgame they've ever played. And this was with only 3 people. With 4+ people the game will REALLY shine, simply due to the vast array of abilities at people's disposal (these traits really open up the game) along with the greater cylon/sympathizer odds.
I'd say if we all knew the rules it would've taken no longer than 2.5hrs. A lot of the time is wasted on poor strategy also; games get extended by sophomoric play... but it's still a helluva lot of fun. There are actual emotional moments playing the game, which really reflects the show. Right off the bat 2 of us got thrown in the brig by the paranoid president - getting swarmed by Cylons and smart politicking helped get us out. Pure space drama on the tabletop. We had a few moments also where we had good strategic synergy going between players; the teamwork aspect is definitely there - especially when we got attacked by toasters twice in a row... literally every piece on the table was on the board and then our FTL malfunctioned :O Getting that piece spooled up in time before getting slaughtered was some ripe good fun; had to sac a few colony ships but frak em, they're fodder.
Made it to Cobol with like 1 or 2 in most every resource, barely beating the Cylon before he'd tried to annihlate us with the perfect Super Crisis (he was riffling through them madly).
This one could be an instant classic if it wasnt tied to a niche TV series imo. A generic fresh IP sold in large retail chains like Toys R Us and Target and you'd have every tom, dick, and harry playing this thing.

As the progenitor of that forum, I would support this move. Anyway, this! A sub-forum to PC/Console gaming (renamed to just Other games) for analog games would work.

One downside to the game; there are 6 of us who play and it usually takes at least 3 hours. Um, we roleplay

Hell, a decent game of Monopoly with a lot of players can take 3+ hours... and Monopoly is no BSGBG
