Those original, thieving hacks? The entire show is based on the UK version, they might as well have the same version.
I'm very sensitive because the UK version is one of the best tv shows ever made.

Yeah, this. The original ending was quirky, weird and left you thinking. The ending they chose... really, WTF? Yeah, taking the title literally (when the title is based on a 1970's David Bowie song) is a really bad idea. And if the TV execs didn't want to end it on a depressing note like the UK version, why buy the fucking thing in the first place?

I've no clue how the UK version ends. What other TV shows do you watch? The last episode reveals it was all a dream/coma/drug trip/indigestion. Basically the "these are stupid ways the show can end" list that Tyler kept at his apartment. Let me know how awesome it is. Bonus points for being sexually aroused during the "...and you were there! And you were there!" moment?
Well, for the record, I never watched the original, and didn't watch this one, either. It just struck me as odd all the anger at the ending, and I wondered if it was just resurfacing angst over the fact that the show was made at all, or whether the ending itself was bad. Because just by reading the endings, one doesn't seem any better or worse than the other. Was the American one too literal? Perhaps. Was David Bowie used much during the series? If not, it would make sense that they couldn't use the same tack as the original.

I got a chuckle out of his Dad, the Major, being named Tom in the US version. Otherwise it was kind of "Uh.. ok then."

Whoa... the show ended?... a month ago? I haven't been watching much tv.
Both endings sound cool to me, although the UK one packs a lot more punch.
Michael Imperioli was awesome.

Necro! II I really liked the first season of LoM (Brit version). The second quickly descended into a difficult-to-watch and predictable (Sam? Can you hear me, Sam?) murder-of-the-week show which I found increasingly (Hey! It's the creepy little girl on TV again) tedious and difficult to watch. I think there's still about 3-4 more episodes I need to watch to finish it. Probably going to try and force myself to finish it in the next week (haven't watched any of the eps for months) but I'm not looking forward to it.

The ending of the Brit version is worth making it through the episodes you don't like, if only because it's so different from what I expected.
The "sequel" series, Ashes to Ashes, is much less good, but still worth watching for DCI Hunt.

He's completely dreadful in Demons, though. Luckily he knew it and decided to ditch the series before it ruined his career. The series wasn't renewed because even though he sucked in it, he was the best thing it had going.

So there were 6 more episodes to watch, not 8. Most of them were a fucking slog until the final two, which were at least interesting again. It should have been wrapped up with the first season. Maybe 10 episodes instead of 8.
But anyway, I finally finished the hard slog tonight. Now I'm wondering if I should next watch the US version (stupid ending aside) or Ashes to Ashes (stupid premise aside)? Not that I'll be starting either too quickly.

It was interesting watching the US version especially the early episodes that were almost directly ripped off from the UK series. The ending was incredibly stupid though. I've tried to watch Ashes to Ashes too but it bores me to tears so far.
You wouldn't really be missing anything if you just stopped right now.

I might just check out a couple of each. I'm curious enough to want to see the way that Gene Hunt is portrayed in 1) The 80's 2) By Harvey Keitel.
The US series would have to be much better than the second series of the UK version (which was a big struggle to force myself to watch) to make me watch through the whole of it though, as would Ashes.

Ashes was ok... it kind of tread ground that had already been retread. The main character wobbles between being hard as nails and a complete girl, and I'm not quite comfortable with the obvious sexual tension between her and DCI Hunt that they seem to force into it. It's not bad, but if you didn't like 2nd series of the British show, Ashes doesn't improve on that.

I just watched this show, I had no idea there was an original version. However, I really really liked this show. The ending came to soon, but was fine with me. Somewhat clever. I did not see it coming.
