I like Titus Pullo.. But I don't know if I'll see this in a theater (didn't bother with other one at theaters either). First impression though is that I would have rather seen Tom Jane reprise the role. I've said it a dozen times before, but I liked his version. They were severely underbudgeted, and the director really didn't quite have a grasp on the whole thing, but they pulled off some cool shit in it. Lots of old school stunts, that Russian fight scene was money, and Tom Jane was good in it. At the very least, it wasn't his fault. This new movie, on the other hand, looks like it captures the comics better -- but then, the casting seems off.

Titus Pullo.
I read a review somewhere that said it was good in a Robocop/Starship Troopers sorta way. I plan on watching it, but not until it comes out on disk.

I read a review somewhere that said it was good in a Robocop/Starship Troopers sorta way This is rough because Robocop was fucking awesome and Starship Troopers was just bad hamfisted schlocky trash. Also one predated the other by a decade or something and somehow the one that came out later was looked like they TRIED to make it worse than Robocop.

My hopes and dreams that maybe someday life will immitate art and someone will start capping bad CEOs and kiddie porn makers and corrupt politicians? We just need one good movie to be the final straw which pushes the right person over the edge into bullet laced oblivion.

Quite possibly. I dont think Thomas Jane or John Travolta were that bad, but that script was an abomination.

I'm a comic book fan, and I work at a movie theater. I could watch it pretty much anytime I want. The previews looked like absolute shit though, so I haven't wasted one minute of my time watching it and don't have any intention of ever watching it.

It was modeled visually after the MAX series with many elements integrated into the movie, such as how people died or certain scenes. But "sympathetic" Punisher just doesn't feel right at all. Addition of Micro was bleh.

Wow. Between this and Ironwood's opinion of DS9, I hope a black hole composed entirely of being 100% wrong about things doesn't form and kill us all.

Just because you're a nerd that likes crappy things doesn't mean they're somehow good or "so bad they're good." Nothing is "so bad it's good." Nothing. Yargh. I hate that phrase.

Satire can't make for a good movie?

Satire only works when you genuinely mock things without engaging in them yourself. Starship Troopers was a fine example of the have your cake and eat it too approach to failed satire.

Starship Troopers was complete and utter fucking garbage and a failed attempt at satire.
DS9, though, was pretty damn good once you got past season 1.
So, in what seems to be a trend, I agree then also disagree with schild's opinions.
Also, I never watched Punisher. Just throwing that out there so that I at least semi address the topic.

I enjoyed Starship Troopers for Dina Meyers, and only for Dina Meyers. The rest of the movie can fuck right off.

I'm really torn on who's a better Punisher though. Tom Jane's a better actor, but this is a better story, and makes Stevenson look better in turn. Also, there's some scenes in here that are very fucking hardcore bare handed brutality, which Jane couldn't pull off. Stevenson can do it, because he just looks that overbearing.
Also, this one's got a worthy villain (Jigsaw.. played by the excellent Dominic West, from the Wire).

Not a bad movie, extremely violent and believable fight scenes.
Could have done without the mailman and his mom though.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation. -William Gibson

If it's still playing, sure. This'd be fun in a theater. Doubtful you'd even find it in a cheapo matinee viewing though.

This movie has acting so bad it surpasses Dolph Lundgren movies. That they completely shat on characters like Tiberiu and Maginty also doesn't help. The scene where Jigsaw dies is , tho.

Who the hell are Tiberiu and Magnity?
Anyhow, they shat on every character. Or rather, the Punisher did. Which makes it a decent Punisher movie, imo. Shitting on people is the name of his game. It's just one of those situations though, where I wish the two films could be combined. Tom Jane is a more nuanced character actor, with often hilarious delivery, and Stevenson is a badass brute. Both of their films are decent enough in their own right (imo), but elements of both stories would make an excellent whole. Kind of like the Dune movies.
[edit] It should also be mentioned that this is a colorfully lit movie, the cinematography is nice, and it might make a worthy Blu-Ray purchase. It's very inspired by Tim Bradstreet's art, but it's not dank and dark, like the story would suggest.
[edit] One more funny thing - this was directed by a woman. I hate to sound sexist, but I am honestly confused. This movie seemed like it was filmed by a giant nutsack, more like.

Who the hell are Tiberiu and Maginty? Maginty was a clever black who grew in Dublin, and, as a result, was an insane scheming brute. Tiberiu was the leader of an old world prostitution ring, racist, and psychotic. Both got a few books dedicated to them as antagonists before getting killed. Garth Ennis did an above average job. In the movie, Maginty is the parkour black who gets both kneecaps shot, and Tiberiu is the father of the romenian that got arrested. I meant shat on the sense that "hey, we've got some good material here. Let's trash it completely."

Ah, I see. Well, the parkour guy went out pretty gloriously, you gotta give em that. ;)
The Romanian wasn't in for long... not sure if he even died. I don't think the Punisher killed any of the guys from his group.. or it wasn't too clear on that.

Finally saw Warzone. Wow. Better than the Thomas Jane version, but EXCRUCIATINGLY SILLY. It was the Vice City Keystone Cops doing Gallagher's act, only the watermelons were filled with blood. The villains were silly silly silly. I like Stephenson as the Punisher.

I think West was great as Jigsaw though. Silly yes, but right up the alley of Garth Ennis' brand of silliness. Could be that both are basically UK and trying to channel East Coast America..?

I actually thought Jigsaw and the bad guys were the worst parts of it. His portrayal of Jigsaw felt like Garth Ennis writing Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face. The plot also veered into nonsense territory when he recruited all the racial stereotypes to be his soldiers.
