Yep, great movie too. DeNiro is great, and Barkin too. I love the ending.. It's a small moment, but when DiCaprio starts screaming and jumping up and down after Deniro is gone is fantastic acting. He's not always been the best at obvious characterizations and accents, I admit, but the guy can pull out a lot of realistic energy and emotion out of nowhere. That's the hardest thing in my opinion. To seem truly pissed or exuberant. Djimon Hounsou is really good at that too, and it was cool to have them in the same film.

Okay dude, I am just going to come out and say it. Are you me or something? Or do all married men end up living the same exact fucking life?
Anyway, my wife claims to dislike diamonds as well - or not to have any particular love for them, anyway. I'm not sure how that explains the increasing number of them that she owns, or the fact that I have purchased no less than three of them for her this very year. In fairness, though, she doesn't seem to care for the giant ones ("they're just so tacky!"), which is just fine with me.
My girlfriend actually makes jewelery as a hobby and she's not overly keen on diamonds because you get so little for your money. Much prefers semi-precious stones with pattern and flaws because they're more interesting. Diamonds are also quite hard to photograph, especially since they tend to be set in silver/platinum/white gold, so you're left with white-on-white and have to resort to on-axis lights to get sparkle, so they're not my favourite either Not seen Blood Diamond but will check it out after reading this thread. The only thing I've seen that I really liked with DiCaprio in was Baz Lurhmann's Romeo & Juliet and that was mostly because a) Baz Lurhmann rocks and b) DiCaprio was really good at playing a wimpy, wet, whiny spoiled brat with a teenage luv problem.

I think a lot of folks hate on Leo because he looks like a punk-ass kid at all times. But damn that dude can act. BD is a great movie and Jennifer Connely has always been been a mega-favorite of mine. I also recommend The Aviator and The Departed. If you watch the first one you better get settled in for a looong ride.

This movie is amazing. Watched it three times already. And yes, definitely The Aviator and Departed for more DiCaprio goodness. The Departed is in a league on its own though, its fucking fantastic.

Leo DiCaprio had proven himself an actor long before Blood Diamond, I just think maybe you missed a lot of it.
I have hated him with a passion since Romeo and Juliet, so yes, I've missed a number of them. I will likely go back and look at the ones that would have interested me had he not been in them (Aviator, Departed).

You can't judge him based on Romeo and Juliet. Baz Luhrmann is overrated and I continue to be mystified by the people that actually like his crap.

This. But really, a lot of my Leo hate comes from the fact that he has that kind of doucheface that just makes you want to punch him over and over until the white meat shows through. It doesn't help when Hollywood fellates him in the media on a regular basis.

I will grant you that Hollywood is really shitty about it, and probably won't ever stop until he makes a real shitty flop.

Hey, my wife also makes jewelry. Next time you're in the area we should go out and eat and they can talk jewelery-nerd all night and we'll talk games, politics, films, y'know, manly stuff.

No, it's from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, though I suppose he does look a bit like Michael Donovan.

When you get to the episode my avatar is from... yeah, that's a funny line, I just can't recall the quote exactly.

The beautiful thing about this film was my wife turning to me after it and saying. You can buy me fake diamonds if you ever get me jewelry.
