No, this doesn't belong in the graveyard where no-one will see it other than existing CoH/V players.

serious question: How is the grind?

Any better?

If not, "goto 0".

They smoothed out the experience curve at the beginning of the year making levelling faster. They also just added "rested" experience a la WoW. However there's been no change to how missions or combat work (not counting PvP) so if you thought the game was a grind in the past (as in the way you got experience was not fun) then no it's not any better.

To put it another way there's not a whole lot to do once you hit the level cap in CoH/CoV compared to an EQ-style MMORPG, so rushing to the level cap doesn't get you much. If you weren't having fun pew pew pewing masses of mobs in the past and not worrying about how fast you were levelling then it's unlikely this issue is going to change your mind about the game.

Have they finished nerfing all the fun out of the game or is that still an ongoing project?

Not counting the just released revamp of PvP (which may or may not be a nerf) there hasn't been any major nerfs since I6 which was 3 years ago. Like any MMORPG they are constantly tweaking things but these days the trend is to actually increase the power of power sets rather than reduce them. I9, which introduced the Invention System, actually undid much of the nerfing in I5 and I6, though to take advantage of that you have to be willing to grind.

Seriously. The game was most fun right after launch, when invuln tanks really were, aoe blasters could kill a hundred mobs at a time, empaths could chain heal an entire group until the end of time, regen scrappers' health bars were like an equalizer at a rock concert, and those whatever buff guys could increase the whole group's damage five fucking fold.

At this point WoW characters more resemble superheros than what's left in CoH. Fuck balance, just let us have fun.

I guess this offer is for the US only? I didn't see any mention of it on the EU site.

A-fucking-men.  I was a goddamned evagelist for this game when it launched, but that cheesedick Emmert just kept inflicting The VisionTM on it.  If ever there was a case where you could go over the top CoH was it, and they just couldn't grasp that.  The one differentiating feature the game had was how crazy powerful you were, and instead of embracing that they did everything they could to turn it into just another Diku.

Ordinarily I'd be salivating for Champions Online since it was my go to superhero RPG when I was a kid.  Since Emmert's involved I'm just going to pretend that it doesn't exist.

Hah, I've been very good about avoiding inflicting my ex-Regen Scrapper bitterness on the lads down in the CoH graveyard but if you're going to start a thread up here you bloody well get what you deserve.  awesome, for real

They always do these weekends whenever there's something big going on.  It doesn't make sense.  I'm not going to take a break from WoW right now to play COX, but if they caught me six months after wotlk came out I'd likely participate.

Except that it's limited to level 5 and below. I have a ton of alts over level 5 that I would love to pair up and I'm sure there are plenty of "couples" out there that have characters like that too.

Level 1-30 goes so fast now that starting over isn't really a big deal.  I rerolled a BS/shield scrapper and a thug/paun MM just to give this a try with a friend.

"Starting over" with a new combination of powersets is fine (I have my de rigeur BS/Shield Scrapper too). I don't want to reroll my existing characters, though. It takes me too long to level them up cause I have so many of them.

If you're still holding a grudge over the I5 nerfest, then it's best to go villain-side and roll with one of their classes. That's what I did (ex-invul/EM tank here, and yes, I'm still bitter over the overnerfing of invul--which is STILL an injustice considering it's present condition, even with IOs). I found a great deal of fun with assorted MMs, my plant dom, and my electric/electric brute (still my only 50).

Anyway, the game has it's moments. I can't presently tear myself away from WoW, but when I can I"m looking forward to leveling my night widow again. There's fun to had in CoH, though, granted, it's on a somewhat limited basis. Certainly worth a weekend here and there.

There are destructible objects in certain missions, but only in those missions and not the terrain.  There's a *lot* of shit you can blow up in those missions, though, but you have to do it on villain side.  The hero versions of those missions have you trying to stop the stuff from being blown up by NPCs, which isn't as fun.

Over and out.

I understand.  I've rerolled a few of my existing toons as well so that they can level with a friend I duo with.  The game is all about rerolling anyway, so I don't mind it.  I have a 50 on each side just to open the other powersets, beyond that it's all about costume design!

... which was great, except for all the character powerset combos that couldn't do these things.

Currently, getting on a team still makes your play experience an absolute meat grinder for mobs, especially if you have some team buffs going on (e.g. Leadership pool / Soldiers of Arachnos team buffs) and / or enemy debuffs. In one weekend you could easily get a new character to lvl 15 - 20 (depending on play times and what you do).

I had fun as a Super Reflexes / Dark Melee scrapper, because with my attack powers debuffing accuracy and thus reinforcing my SR skills, I could dodge effing everything.

Is that still the case?

Also, the one powerset I never tried out but I'd love to re-up and give a go to, was the "bowling ball" kinetics, when you could just run around bouncing everyone off the ceiling.  Does that still work well?

Everyone love Kinetics. It's pretty much an instant "on" to a team.

Can't talk deeply for DM / SR, but I'm pretty sure it would still work in that vein.

Yes.  My 50 is a DM/SR scrapper.  With the new invention sets, it's pretty ridiculous.  I stopped playing the toon because it just seemed too easy (that and the animations get old after a while).

This issue has buffed up Invulnerability quite a bit. They finally removed that retarded defense debuff in Unyielding, as well as raise
the resists in the toggles and passives, along with some new resists to some debuff effects.. uh, defense debuff, endurance drain and
movement debuffs, I think. My brute is a lot more durable now (not that it wasn't before) but I don't feel like I have to have a Thermal
or Sonic strapped to my leg at all times now.

Dark Melee is probably hands down the best ST damage melee set in the game, and with the melee range increase this issue, from what
I've heard, Shadow Maul is wtfpwning. Can routinely nail three mobs in the cone, and with a fraction of the work required before, you can
get four-five mobs. Midnight Grasp was also buffed to have it's damage delivered more upfront and Siphon Life now does mondo damage.

You really pay for shadow maul with the damn animation time... I cry everytime it misses.

I haven't played my scrapper since I10.  I probably should.

Team with an Energy Blaster and knock things senseless.

I need to try out a Dark/Invuln tank.  Now if I could figure out how to rename my scrapper so I can use the name on the character I wanted her to be...

When I really want a name, I'll just re-roll.  Then again, I enjoy the lower levels.  I can't tell you how many characters I've deleted and rerolled over the years in this game.  I think it's because I get bored out of my mind once I hit level 40.
