My favorite is Goldfinger, mostly because it was the first Bond film I saw. Plus the most risque name of the 60's: Pussy Galore!

They never got better than that IMO. It was funny and camp without overdoing it and it still had a touch of gritty darkness to it that stopped it being just a kids film.

Isn't it more fun to talk about BAD Bond movies?

I mean, come on. Die Another Day wasn't only the worst Bond movie I've ever seen, but it was one of the worst movies OF ALL TIME.

The only thing I like about Die Another Day was the hovercraft chase at the beginning and the only reason for that is because they filmed it in Aldershot at a place where they also hold a race called the Grim Challenge which is very wet, very muddy and very cold (first year was an icebreaker in January) and also a lot of fun.



Other than that it's diabollically bad.

My favourite Bond film, however, is more difficult.  Of the Moore era it was "Live and Let Die" because of the boat scene, the voodoo vibe and the classic theme tune.  Of the Connery era I'm going to say You Only Live Twice because it's got Donald Pleasance playing Blofeld.  Other than that, I'm about the only person on the planet who really likes License to Kill because - I don't know - probably fancied Carey Lowell or something. Or maybe it's because it reminds me of the summer of 1989 which was quite probably one of the best summers I ever, ever had.

Octopussy and Never Say Never - and I think mostly because of how old I was when I say them and the fact that they are the only two Bond films I ever saw in the theater...I.e. I was fairly young and they were pretty damn exciting at the time.

As for the newer movies, I'll admit to loving Goldeneye.

I'd select one for each era.

Connery era: I'd go with Goldfinger because it's the first one which got the formula exactly right although Thunderball is also great.
I really like on her majesty's secret service with Lazenby because it provides a backstory to Bond and adds some drama and emotion to the series.
I never was that much into Moore's interpretation of Bond but I liked Live and let die.
I can't say anything about Dalton's Bond because I never watched his movies.
My favorite Brosnan Bond is 'The world is not enough'

From Russia with Love is my favorite.  Well paced, detailed plot, people doing things for reasons you can understand, etc...  This one is followed, in no particular order, with Goldfinger, Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and then the Daniel Craigs.

From Russia with Love and Dr. No are both more classic spy movies.  Both great.  Bond in Dr. No is about three parts manipulative asshole.

As ridiculous as they are,  I'll watch The Spy Who Loved Me and Live and Let Die if they're on.

The Dalton movies are still better than the Brosnan movies except for Goldeneye.

For classic Bond, I'm thinking Dr. No and Goldfinger and for Roger Moore movies Live and Let Die and The Spy Who Loved Me are probably the only decent ones. Though I did love Moonraker for the Pew Pew Lazers, and always dug the Jaws character.

The Spy Who Loved Me

I had seen bits and pieces of some of the other Bond movies on TV but this was the first one I saw in the theaters as a kid. Obviously it was the most awesome movie I had ever seen besides Star Wars (underwater Lotus Espirit for teh win!).

The Living Daylights.

The downhill skiiing fight in the cello case clinches it for me.  Plus, it gets points for having other 00 agents in it.

I also liked most of the Brosnan ones, largely because the effects were way nicer.

The only one I really can't stand is Live and Let Die.  It just really doesn't click for me.

Wat? Goldeneye is a far better film on multiple levels.

I don't know what my all-time favourite is, I have a real soft spot for Moonraker because that's the one I'd watch if I was sick and missing school way back when. Goldeneye, Casino Royale, Goldfinger and the Living Daylights I also love. The living daylights being also sweetly ironic nowadays.

Live and Let Die was the best Bond Theme Song imo

The only one I really can't stand is Live and Let Die.  It just really doesn't click for me.

Goldfinger is my all time favorite.  Casino Royale (the recent one) may eclipse it upon further review.  It was the only Bond film that got me emotionally involved in the story.  Also, Chris Cornell made that the best theme, in my O.

Jeff beat me to it.  I was starting to question some very basic assumptions about the people saying they thought The World is Not Enough as their favorite Brosnan, because that movie was just about as bad as it gets.  Tomorrow Never Dies had Michelle Yeoh and, apart from Goldeneye, was the only Brosnan bond I can still watch.

Shit, that's what I get for not looking up the stuff on IMDB. Yeah, Tomorrow Never Dies is the one I meant - Michelle Yeoh is teh awesome. World is Not Enough - fuck what a piece of dogshit that was. Denise Richards as nuclear scientist named Christmas Jones.   

Goldeneye was decent, but it had that scene where he catches the plane at the beginning that's falling over a cliff. That one broke me.

The problem with all post-Goldeneye Bond films is that they got too caught up with the notion that fancy gadgets were what had made previous Bond films successful. If you're going to argue that the catching the plane scene broke Goldeneye for you then I'd return that the defensive driving using your phone as a remote-control scene was breaking for me. That said, the world is not enough wasn't a bad film overall; Die another Day and the World is Not Enough showed us the depths that could be plumbed.

So while it seems the consensus is that the Brosnan Bonds were mostly shit (and I agree), I think Brosnan as an actor made an excellent Bond, he was just saddled to shitty shit shit writers.
