Has anyone tried to conquer/build a monument?  Any advice?

Also, I am mining ~750 emeralds per day, have 500 in stock at the moment, and am interested in trading for any luxury material except leather at 1:1.  I need kohl the least at the moment.

I've got a monument site.  Shit is a serious drain on the economy as you have to pay for both workers and military on the site out of your bread stash.  You need to have supplies ready to go when you conquer it and be prepared to shift towards a more bread heavy economy (which I had started to do anyhow since Cedar is pretty much all but valueless right now)

I went back and forth on a monument site. I whittled down the bandits, someone else finished the job, so I took it from him, he took it from me, then I took it back. I'm sending all my limestone to my home city for now. No way I'm gonna store it where it can be taken.

Careful how you manage your workers at monument sites. I had 63 workers at my site, then sent them all home without removing them from the limestone work area. So the game thinks there's still 63 workers in the limestone, and they're eating my food and pretending like they're there.

Apparently this only happens if you have more than 10 boats -- there's a chance of disaster to befall your ships as they return.

I managed to destroy ~100 bandits with ~200 soldiers (even split between the three types) and upkeep for the 100+ remaining soldiers and 63 workers is a bit crazy.

I'm sorely tempted to send a handful of soldiers to take over a plot one Nome north of me that has but a single soldier defending it, but am not sure if I want to start a war of aggression against my neighbors just yet....

Looks like there's a chance for positive random events too. They can even occur if you're below the 10 ship limit.

I'm letting my monument starve.  Everybody in my city seems to be happy with this arrangement.  Let them eat cake.

Of course eventually the vultures will descend on the monument site, but that thing is just costing me bread right now.  Market is flush with limestone... they can have it.

I suppose it depends on where you are in the nile, but my area, I've held onto my plot since military has come up with a grand total of 71 troops for the duration.

I've only had one attack, and that was someone sending 5 troops just to see what it did. Most of the plots around here are nearly as lightly defended. I'm tempted to put civil build up on hold just to pillage the country side.
