Might it be a good idea to edit the first post, with our luxury items and second city resources? I'm all about the cedar in my first city, and oil and perfume in the second. My first city's luxury changes daily; right now it's sculptures but those are going to get used up real quick.

I really like how all resources remain in demand, no matter what level you are. However, the market seems glutted right now. I've had cedar up there for days, and nobody seems to need perfume at the moment. I suspect most people with henna make oil their second city, and vice versa.

Anyways, all my boats are out so any trading with me will have to happen tomorrow morning. Zoinks!

There's a guy just south of me who has been trading perfume for my sandals, so I've been able to take care of that locally.

I'm kinda annoyed that there isn't secure 1:1 trading.  The market prices near me are crap (everything is 2-10x what it should be based on cost to manufacture bread vs the goods) but direct trading is risky.  Nobody's scammed me yet, but I seem to have no recourse if somebody does (I can't even invade them in retribution!).

I'm also about ready to start my second city (just waiting for my brick stockpile to hit 1500 now) and am interested in any suggestions.  City #1 has Leather which has provided sandals, a pretty self-contained commodity I can trade for most things.  I was considering Cedar for city #2 as it seems likely to be important for basic military units which I suspect will be important soon.

I'd recommend against cedar, personally, just because I have a big surplus of it at the moment that I can't get rid of.  If it ever actually becomes good for something, there are enough people who got stuck with it that you shouldn't have a problem trading for it. On the other hand, NOBODY seems to have emeralds (I'm having a hell of a time finding jewelry, and usually it's for lack of emeralds).  So that'd be where I'd go.

If you want military I would go with Bronze ATM.  It gives you another luxury good and you can make, what, spearmen?  with it and leather. 

I'm a Cedar city and I agree with Sam.  It's getting harder to trade it away.

Edit to add:  The only reason I think I am doing ok with it is because there are only 2 active Cedar players in the 7 nomes surrounding me.
