If you ever wanted to know what a "Made for Sci-Fi Channel" movie would be like with John Malkovich and Ron Perlman in it, then this is your film.  awesome, for real

[edit] Also, this movie contains the most hardcore mercy killing ever.

I've not seen any trailers for this. This isn't based on the Warzone miniatures game is it?

Yes.. and it doesn't have too much in common.  It's a baaad movie imo.. there are some good parts.. but it just seem cheaper then a Sci Fi Movie to me.

It might be cheaper.. very green screeny ala 300/Sin City. But sci-fi -- although with heavy WW2 motifs (which is the main redeeming factor. The style is cool at least).

Tom Jane has some funny fucking parts towards the end.

I'm really not quite sure how they got Malkovich for this.

Jane, Pearlman, and Malkovich..

I actually like all three actors..but nothing can save a shiity script.  This went straight to DVD didn't it?

Don't think so? Think it's only had a Euro release, and hasn't even been shown in the States yet.

That said, I am in the states and I have seen it.  Ohhhhh, I see.

But for all intents and purposes, yeah, it's got straight-to-DVD written all over it.

I know it's shitty... I mainly mention it here because it's an interesting sci-fi "fix". Many people here watch craptastic sci-fi films just for being sci-fi. This is just like one of those movies, but with something a little more to it. A good B movie, if you will. With a decent cast.

I'm still trying to figure out how they got Malkovich. Perlman will do anything sci-fi. Jane probably wasn't busy that week. But Malkovich?

Malkovich has entered the Pacinio/DeNiro zone of doing what pays him.

Hasn't that always been the Samuel Jackson zone?  I mean Pacino and DeNiro were at least picky at one time.

As much as I like him, Jane is fast becoming the premier B movie action star of the day. This is right up his alley.

He actually has some great Bruce Campbell like moments here though.

Anyways, I'm not bullshitting you people. You need to watch this and Death Sentence. They are great "bad films".

Just finished watching this. Holy shit, it's good. Yes, it's cheesy and there are some definitely cringe-worthy moments. But overall, this is a fun, sci-fi movie with a dark twist to it, and it fits the setting from the RPG/Miniature game. I wish they'd have used the armor from the games instead of just the clothes, but overall, really well done. The ending left it open for more movies.

Apparently the movie had something like a $1 milllion budget. They used it WELL. Hell, their shaky cam action scenes were a billion times better the Greengrass action scenes from the Bourne movies. You could tell what shit was happening even though it was filmed with heavy shadows. And Jane definitely had some good Bruce Campbell moments. "I'm not paid to believe. I'm paid to fuck shit up."

I think Michael Caine defines that approach, personally.

He was also in "Eragon". Sometimes an actor takes a weak gig to fill in time between roles he might be more interested in.

Trolling though Amazon's cheap blurays, I saw a title called "Mutant Chronicles". I dimly remembered something about them possibly going into preproduction to make a film based on the old Target Games/Warzone franchise, then promptly forgot about it.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mutant-Chronicles-Blu-ray-Sean-Pertwee/dp/B001LNW2JW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1278404306&sr=1-1

According to Wikipedia, it is indeed that same thing. It also implies that it sucks rather heavily. Still, based on the cast it might be so bad it's good, and we used to have a pretty damn fun Warzone miniatures campaign going in our FLGS, so I'm intrigued to see which designs made it into the film.

So I'm asking here if anyone's seen it, or has any thoughts on it?

It's pretty horrible.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

I enjoyed it on a schlock sci-fi action level. It actually fits in with the Mutant Chronicles mythos fairly well. Its your basic heroes fighting through the hoards of aliens/zombies/monsters survival action movie. I rank it above Doom in the genre, but a bit below Pandorum, if that helps.

I liked it strictly for Ron Perlman, but I didn't exactly go into it with high expectations either.

What's been said.  I thought it was an okay Netflix rental, but it was also fairly forgettable.  I wouldn't buy it.

This too. I liked it, it mostly fits the setting, but it's also a bit of a forgettable action movie. It's worth a rental.

Why?

I'm not sure if it's even available for rental here. I'd have to see how much they wanted for it to rent as well.
