I'm bored out of my mind now that WAR has been a disappointment. Can anyone suggest a well crafted Diablo clone for the PC? I'd prefer something with a single player rather than control of a party. I'm a lone wolf like that.
Thanks

If you just care about the loot there are some okay games for that like Titan Quest or Sacred. If you want something other than Diablo that has the "omigod the screen is filled with baddies and my mouse is about to expire from clicking so much" gameplay you are out of luck.

Titan Quest and Sacred are the canonically acceptable Diablo clones

Titan Quest is the only Diablo-like that has entertained me since Diablo 1 (not the biggest D2 fan). The orginal + xp is only $20 on Steam. Like Trippy mentioned the monster density isn't near what D1/D2 could pull off. And thus, it kind feels slower paced. I liked it though, but never got too far because I think something big and must-playish came out shortly after I started it.

Titan Quest it is. I like slower paced, personally... so it may be a great fit.
I appreciate the help.

Well - if you like slower paced. Maybe go with Rogue...
Or nethack.
Or a graphics version of either.

That's old school. Played a lot of Rogue and Nethack in my day.

Wait, wait. If you're going curses roguelike, Angband and ADOM are your only responsible choices. Specifically, OAngband with randarts and preserve off.

I got my answer and downloaded Titan Quest and the expansion last night.
I also learned about Steam in the process. You really can teach an old dog new tricks.

IMO neither ADOM nor Angband (or any of the 10 billion variants that I tried) ever really got the essence of things down like good old Nethack. ADOM was probably closer.

Sacred 2 is out in two or three weeks.
Probably has AIDs as copy protection though, so wait for that to get sorted out.

Dungeon Siege was Diablo without the gameplay depth. If you just want to LEFT CLICK FOR VICTORY!!!! then it'll probably serve.

I've played through Dungeon Seige and found it to be pretty unsatisfying. I'm really looking for a diablo-like rpg that I can a) control a single player and b) enjoy at a slower, more strategic pace than just the mind-numbing clickfest that is diablo. I'll see what I think of Titan Quest.

If you pick up the game + expansion make sure you start your new game with the expansion executable. You play through all the same stuff as the original game plus the extra expansion content but you also get a new character class and a few new gameplay options that are only available in the expanded game.
I made the mistake of playing the original game and only playing the expansion when I finished it and I missed out on some stuff that made the game more fun because of that.

Thanks. Schild was telling me the same thing last night. Is there a class or something specific I should look for to make sure the expansion is activated before I start playing?

The new class is Dreamwalker (or something like that). You'll be able to tell you're in the expansion because the first town you're in will have a Caravan Master that let's you store stuff to transfer between characters. That makes twinking your alts much, much easier.

I really enjoyed Titan Quest but the lack of random maps killed it for me pretty much.

I like me some ZangbandTK. Shitloads of neat races and classes, and some nice tilesets including one that makes the game isometric. I guess it's another dead one, but what do I care? I'll never see everything in it.

Probably the only game I've banned just for it's name.

The game has Belgian developers and a German publisher. It was supposed to be called Divinity: Sword of Lies but then CDV changed the name. If you were to ban a game every time a publisher did something retarded, you would pretty quickly be left with no more games ever.

As something different, there is Throne of Darkness - control a team of 4 out of a group of 7, set in feudal fantasy Japan, the AI generally isn't retarded, don't know how hard it would be to find.

Been playing Titan Quest and have one question: Is there any way to change the camera angle? It's driving me insane to the point I can't play it anymore.

Beyond Divinity was the better game anyhow, but it's technically party based in that you have two characters. It's also much more story driven and not very random. It does however look and feel dated.
