That appears to be common with a lot of male insects, the part doesn't need to be attached to continue producing sperm.
Male honeybees, for example, break it off in the queen upon successful mating and it continues to inseminate her for the rest of her life.
So I imagine the +1 agi spiders just shove it in after victory and prior to the female's feast.

So ok... trying to follow the logic on this. Male spiders compete for female spider in order to pass on his genetics. However, the males with the best chances of competing with other males for that chance with the female spider is to lop off the sac containing the genetic material he is trying to pass on.    Its more like Mate with female, cut off sac: Fight other males who are trying to take the sac out, so they can insert their own.

I don't know why, but I think jumping spiders are cute in almost any context. I almost wish we had these here in Ohio. Since it looks like it belongs on Deathworld, I'll just assume it's from someplace in Australia.

Tempted to post a link, but a quick google image search points to an european black and yellow garden spider.

Hate those god damn things... Not because the spider creeps me out, but they would purposely build their webs right where all the paths I used to play on were around my grandmother's country house. Those webs never seem to come out of your hair or mouth.

I considered hiking the Appalachian trail a few summers ago, but the horror stories of the spiders on the path ultimately drove me off.  Apparently by halfway through you are so tired of trying to knock them down that you just walk through them and clean off every few hours.
I can walk for 16 hours a day, but I wouldn't walk for 16 seconds through a bunch of spiders.

Probably shouldnt go too far up north then, either.  Some nice big Dock Spiders and the like up in Northern Ontario :P

I've found the best way to combat my arachnophobia was to research spiders and get somewhat up close and watch them.  It helps since we have black widows of the giant variety everywhere.  I also let a cellar spider hang out in the corner of a room in my house and then noticed what appeared to be gnats in the web and was proud of myself for letting a spider do its thing and catch the bugs in the house.  Except it wasn't gnats, it was about 500 spider babies.  Oops.  Preggers spider and her brood all over the wall.
Rhyssa would enjoy me posting more black widow and huge critter pictures I bet...
