I guess it's a new "alternate reality game" company. They're all the rage!

Hahaha -- Nah. Don't take it quite that literally. The slides are just a reminder that some people's efforts in the creation of entertainment can actually raise people's overall happiness in life in meaningful ways. (Whether that holds true for jaded, bitter yet lovable f13ites remains to be seen...) For me personally, the sum total of my online experiences - games, forums, BBSes, MUDs, MMOs - have very much shaped the person that I turned out to be, in more positive ways than I can count. In no small part that's thanks to all the great people I've met and gamed with along the way, but some amount of the credit is definitely due to the creators of the places I've spent that time. If we can manage to raise overall happiness while making fun games? Well, hell yeah. I think that's pretty noble. (But yeah, I'm not going to put odds on getting Schild to end up leading a round of kum ba ya anytime soon, despite the fact it'd greatly increase *my* overall happiness quite a bit.) - Scott

I applaud your daring choice of mascot. I don't know if I'd have the chutzpah to brand my company with a nude orange demon brazenly fondling his enormous stainless steel penis. Or is that a giant double-headed "hammerhead" dildo? Either way, good stuff.

That is a fine use of the word "brazenly." I chuckled.

Well, I still don't really know what the heck you're doing now but whatever it is congrats and stay happy. MUDs helped shape my mind too. Of course, the MUD that I helped develop was Discworld so that probably explains a lot.

MUDs/BBSs helped me learn to read around 1991, and now I read a ton, so I've gotta say they affected me for the better. I still remember going to board meets back then, and talking in teleconference with people. In school kids and teachers said I was lying when I said I could talk to people on my computer.
I was still frequenting them up until year or 2 ago, it's sad to see them in decline... Or are there still the same amount of MUDs around, and just so many more people?
Edit: I'd also like to say that you should read Rainbows End by Verner Vinge, if you haven't already. The whole "wearing", Belief Circle and augmented reality concepts all really interested me.

What MUDs did you play? And what was your favorite? Tele-Arena, MajorMUD, Trade Wars, Legend of the Red Dragon, or Mutants? -- This is a cool site: http://archives.thebbs.org/

I mostly played MajorMUD (it's probably why I spell colour and it's varients with a u), but I also played a ton of Trade Wars and The Legend of the Red Dragon. A friend of mine actually bumped into Seth Able (the guy who created TLORD) in an irc chatroom a few years back. I never really played Mutants or Tele-Arena, but I did play some Kyrandria, and it's Sci-Fi equivalent, who's name escapes me right now. MegaMud kind of killed MMud, but you can still find some pretty good edited boards out there on ForumsHQ ( http://forumshq.com/forumdisplay.php?f=7). If you are interested in playing a game like Trade Wars, check out Blacknova Traders, a web based version that was made to re-create it, I guess somewhat like The Legend of The Green Dragon. Edit: You are so young, I just want to give you such a pinch!
Just make sure it's not the face or the ass, I get that enough.

Why am I homeless? Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question. They called it The Prayer, its answer was law Mommy come back 'cause the water's all gone

MMO's and sites like F13 taught me how to be impervious elsewhere. They're like bootcamp on how to handle fools (in a non-physical fashion). That's what I've gotten out of it.
