Didn't you just say a few days ago that Yahtzee isn't good at games or something like that?

That's why it says "On Something."

But yes, I know, reading is hard.

Guy plays mmo as if it was a single player pve game and gets bored fast.
Fair enough. I've played eve the same way and it bored me too.

Ah he hits the nail on the head pretty much. I am one of those crazy uber hardcore dudez that find it fun. Or something.

I think he has a valid point in there somewhere. All I can say to him is, "well fuck off and play something else then".

Dead on review, though he neglected to mention the ships you can build that cost the price of a small car.

Sounds like we need more PvP classes - whoever thinks playing eve solo while mining needs to be shown the darkside. No one in their right mind would say that's still fun after a month. Leave the mining to the chinese farmers.

Eve *is* PvP - if you aren't doing it you are just playing the little side games they have to let you do something while trembling in fear and hiding in highsec.

Ninja edit to fill it a out a bit more.

Yahtzee is a bloody carebear.  If he wasn't a damn funny one, I'd boycott his reviews for costing Eve as many subs as he's going to.

Is it funny that he's sabotaging a game that advertises on his website?

Yahtzee seems to have lost a bit of his spark, his older shit much, much funnier than these new ones have been.

Also, bring back music relevant to the review, this intro/outro shit is awful.

He was spot-on on the carebear side of Eve though, 99% of that game is soul-crushingly boring, fortunately it's got a 1% that can be pretty fun.

He is completely right about the newbie experience if you are not corp sponsored.

I'm guessing CCP is very happy with Yahtzee's review. It gets their game looked at by a wide range of people. It is pretty spot on about who is going to enjoy it, and pretty accurate that you need to be in a corp to have fun. Yes, it's all negative, but it's Yahtzee reviewing a muh-mor-puh-guh. Prediction that Eve sees a spike in free trial downloads.

This. I said a lot of the same things about EVE when I tried it solo back in 2004. However, it stuck at the back of my brain, nagging me, and I joined up once Viin started F13corp. If it wasn't for F13corp, I'd've never gone as far as I have with the game.

I'm playing it solo right now while I train some skills and the the review was completely dead on.  I know I'm "doing it wrong" though so I'm not going to judge the game on it's solo play.

Why?  There is a whole group of (mostly) friendly F13ers waiting to receive you with (mostly) open arms.

Fake edit: I just re-read your original thread down below.  Come on, it's been long enough.  Accept Slay's 10mil and come join us.  Surely you can fly tackling frigates by now.  You can leech off some of our mission running, salvage, loot etc.  It'll be fun!

I figure it will be at least sixty days before I think I will have anything to contribute to a corp.  I did one of those GTC things (which is a very interesting system) so I have plenty of money.

I first contributed to the corp during my 14 day free trial.

Edit: and I agree about the GTC system.  Sticking to the legal methods, you can only put RL money in the system; you can't take it out.  That allows "good" RMT and removes the "bad".  It also makes their work to ban the non-legal ones a lot smaller.  I think more games could benefit from a similar system.  It's pretty ingenious, almost like CCP didn't invent it   awesome, for real

You can be effective within a few hours of starting the game, if given some guidance. Goonfleet proved that.

The problem is the clause "if given some guidance" and the immediate implication that you'll be playing with a group of players friendly to you. Not exactly a common trial experience, I expect.

You are now required to come try out 0.0 space...you really have nothing to lose (and if you do you have cash to buy another smallish ship), and if you are into doing missions and stuff - you could start on the Guristas missions and get the standing going. Once you get high standing, I'm guessing you will have plenty of people who would want to join you if you needed help on a lvl 4 , just so they could increase standings. If you arent into missioning, there should be plenty of PVP for anyone up there and belt ratting for some iskies.

I also have alts I don't mind letting people use for ratting (as long as you are an old time f13er :) - as it is good for my security status.

He's totally correct. Playing eve by yourself sucks and is horribly boring. It's also overly complex.

He refused to join a corp, the only reason why you would ever play this game.

He's a goon, but he refused to join goonfleet...

Out of curiosity, why Guristas?  When I used up the 14 free days in July I thought about doing some Serpentis missions but I was worried I'd have a lot of problems back in Hi Sec what with all the negative faction hits.

It's because the space we are currently moving into is Gurista agents.  awesome, for real

If you do this and end up running missions, people like me would be glad to help you even on level one missions just to get our standings up.

This is silly.

You might as well grind Guristas missions as what ever you are grinding now, and half of BAT specialises in being useful in cheap cruisers with T1 fittings even in PvP fleets anyhow.

My first solo kill was about 3 months into the game.  I took on a manticore (stealth bomber) and a vexor (gallente drone cruiser) with a myrmidon (gallente drone battlecruiser).  Killed the manticore and the vexor only got away because it was fit for running.  Don't feel shy about PvPing, it's fun and cheap if you fly T1 and don't use expensive implants.  Hell, you can even practice scouting for our convoys that are moving from empire into 0.0.

My first solo kill was the day after joining Goonfleet.  I blithely headed down the pipe to Detorid from Scalding Pass, and promptly jumped into a 20-strong Bob bubblecamp.  So I blew up their fucking dictor.  I had always known that guided missile precision would be handy one day.

Of course, my raven died, but I lost considerably less in my T1, pre-rigging raven than that souped-up Bob dictor pilot did, and they now had to go home to get another.

To be fair, one of the Bob guys convoed me afterwards to compliment me on target selection and on choosing to blow up the dictor wreck: in fact, I did that less out of cold calculation and more because everything else was moving way too fast for me to hit.

You guys all had fun exciting first solo kills.  My first one was not at all interesting.

I was flying a Drake doing missions when a war target in a Cormorant (Caldari destroyer) engaged me on a gate.  Battlecruiser >> Destroyer, end of story.  swamp poop
