Does the game use the D-Pad or Thumbsticks to play, as I cant decide wether to get it for Xbox or PS3.

Why would you ever ever use a thumbstick in a fighting game? Ever? Use the D-Pad. Also, 360 has a mandatory 30seconds to a minute load between large changes (story mode!). I highly recommend getting the PS3 version even if the install takes 30 minutes. Cuts loading time to 3-7 seconds.

I wish the 360 would start offering installs as an option.

The ability to rip 360 games to your HDD is coming later this year with the dashboard overhaul.  Should speed things up quite nicely.

Fuck that apprentice shit. I want Force fucking Unleashed.

The apprentice kicked my ass until I got Vader's throw and choke move down. Then I literally choked the bitch to death.

Now I have discovered he is mucho fun to play and his lightning bolt attack is super easy to do.

Net effect? I'm looking forward to the force unleashed alot more now.

Yeah the apprentice was too fucking awesome. He whooped my ass 10 times until I got triple swordslash with Mitsurugi. I want to unlock the apprentice  Heart

You have to beat him in arcade mode with whatever Star Wars character is on your system. Vader is a bitch to beat him with because Vader is so slow. That's why I had to use force choking to win.

Just picked up the 'premium edition' of this, as it was the same price at the local incompetent Best Buy as the regular one.

It comes with a mini sharpie!

I'm torn.  I loved Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast, but none of my friends are into fighting games, or they'll maybe play a match or two just to humor me.  The single player in these games just don't provide enough longevity, and fighting games suck online what with the retards you're forced to play with/latency.

With a heavy heart, I think I'll give this one a pass.

I'm in the same boat. Ten years ago I had a bunch of people around who were always up to play any fighting game, these days nobody is interested and I'm a vs. arcade player at heart.

Funny enough, I had uber trouble with vader beating him, but Taki, Talim, Maxi, Mitsurugi - no one stands a chance. I'm not bad with some of the new toons either (except Angol Fear, I don't like the way she moves).

Why are reviews and reting so lukewarm all around? What does a game need these days to get a great ratings? To be Mario all the time?

From what I've seen the reviews have been very positive overall. That said from what I hear the core vs. fighting gameplay isn't as good as SC1. (Maybe 2 as well)

Basically as the series has gone along it's gotten better for people looking to mess around and play casually but worse for people who are really into it at a competitive level. And at this point, 4 games in, the actual 1 on 1 combat is a bit stale.

Mmmmm it's easily as good as 2. And they added some just frame shit. in fact, there's some crazy skills that turn impact hits into Just moves. Really, it's enjoyable. I've logged about 12-15 hours thus far and only in single player. It's no great competitive fighter, but that's never been why I played the serious. My roommate and I will log serious hours on it. It's just straight up fun.

I picked this up yesterday. I'm not very good at yet, but that's ok as I learned how to cheat: Play Yoda.

I am impressed by the game though, nice to see someone get the idea of custom characters correct.

I bought it for PS3. D-Pad wins. If anyone wants to give me full handicap I will play them online.

How do I unlock the Apprentice? I know you have to beat him with Vader, but where is he? In the tower?

I haven't seen a load anywhere  near that long in any of the modes.

Anyway, Yoda is fun as hell to play.

Ive already mentioned the massive failure the last time I tried to do some fighting game action with my friends.
And solo play while enjoyable for me, is not 60 dollars of enjoyable.
I shall wait for the 360 version to go greatest hits.
