RoK solo content is fine. The problem is no viable alternative. The instances targeted 78-80 level characters.  Those instances can now be done by lower levels if there are a few well-equipped 80s in the group, but that wasn't the case initially. The only other group content was Karnor's which was much too hard for a PUG of low 70s, the exp was pathetic compared to solo questing and good drops were very rare.  KC is still the only zone where 71-75 Masters drop and still no one goes there.

Then they added Shard of Hate where 2 groups of 80s can farm trash and get a shot at amazing loot. And now the new level 80 single group instance of Runnyeye is coming with an epixX2 as the final mob. There is still no solid mid-70s group content in Kunark, contested or instanced.

I have never played WoW.

I think I downloaded the wrong trial, I could only choose to be a fay, is there one that lets me play any class or am I stuck?
That's the Play the Fae trial, which isn't bad if you don't mind being a faerie.  To get the two months Legacy deal you need to log into an old EQ2 account.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

Patching EQ1 now. Estimated remaining time is about 9 and a half hours. With cable.

I don't think I'll do the whole thing in one hit.

Oh wait, 13 hours now.

erm. 18 hours.

hm. it just keeps climbing. It says 22 hours now. I'll just let it run for an hour or so, and if it's really this fucked up, I'll say goodbye to Norrath, without even going back.

Oh, this is with an existing install up to the one after GoD.

Yeah. 28 hours. Something seriously wrong with this picture.

It now seems to have stablised around the 24 hour mark. hrm.

Yeah, EQ is taking awhile to dl.  I have to imagine there's quite a few people hammering their servers atm though.  I figure they've given us damn near 2 whole months, so if I blow a week in transfer I'm still good.

I logged in a little bit ago and after some patching I suddenly could make anything I wanted.  Not sure why or how since there was nothing to explain it, but I'll dink around with it until the free time runs out however long it is.

Mentioned in previous EQ/ EQ2 threads is that the SOE patcher is crappy and glitchy.  It likes to stall out or corrupt itself or lord knows what after an hour or two of downloading.  Since it's good about restarting where it left-off, try rebooting your machine and seeing what it says after that.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

It settled back down to about 2 and a half hours just before I had to go to work, so I left it running. Should (in theory) be done when I get back.

Unless you run out of disk space!

I installed EQ2 from original DVD's, patched during the day until the install size reached 6.9GB and ran me out of disk space and the installer is telling me in needs best part of another 3GB to complete.

I'm guessing its because its letting us have all the expansion content but it would have been nice to have had:
a. some warning to the final install size
b. an option not to install off of the content

You have to make a Fey the first time. Once you've made a Fey, you can then make and play anything else. Unfortunately you still have to put up with a world full of people playing Feys.

If anyone is interested in a leg up you can also join the Bazaar server. I'll outfit any Cloth or Leather armor wearers in full MasterCrafted if you like. I can do handcrafted for chain/plate wearers, unfortunately rare metals are still too expensive.

I'll also provide a couple hours of powerleveling if anyone is really interested in checking out higher parts of the game they maybe haven't seen before. For the sub-40s my two-box of Conjuror/Enchanter can grind you up pretty quick. Anyone higher will be a bit slower since I'll have to use my Bruiser/Warden combo.

Sad me day...  I logged in and remembered:

I totally forgot that I let a necro chew me down to 50 or so and then deleted my toon... luckily I saved all my wr bags, 100,000p and some decent gear on a lvl 11.

Do I really want to start over?  I killed him for a reason...  Not to mention 100,000p is probly chump change these days on Seventh Hammer.

I hit 28 last night on my Assassin on Oasis. Bat Country the guild is totally dead on that server. I don't think I have the energy to start over on another server. We'll see how long I can play on this one.

Have the achievements changed? I had a whole bunch of racial traits that I'd never assigned that I don't remember being there last time I played.

I  downloaded  EQ1 and tried it again after about 2 years away but unfortunately it was a rather solitary experience. Why? Because the server I spent 5 years on is gone, merged into another server where not one familiar face or guild name seems to have survived. Not much hook there to pull me back in, I'm afraid, so after I got bored wandering around the updated freeport and commonlands I logged back out, unlikely to log back in again.

I guess you really can't go back again. :)

I think I'm over MMOGs or at least EQ/DAOC/WoW types.  I got a quest update that said kill spiders until <foozle> appears and then kill him.  I logged out and uninstalled because I couldn't bring myself to start down that road again.  I think that lately I get more pleasure reading about these games than I do playing them.

Damn them; I managed to let four expansions go by since the last time I fed the EQ itch.  This time, with all the expansions opened up, I can't resist.  Fortunately they've given me just about enough free time to get tired of it again and then stop for another year or two.

I find it much the same.  Still not terribly soloable; the mobs haven't changed, I just sit for less time after killing a light blue con critter.  The AA changes take some of the sting out of that, though.  I easily got an AA killing those aforementioned light blues in Bastion of Thunder for a little while.  Only a few thousand more to go...

I do like the flag requirements removal; I'll have to go poke around into the planes I never got to see before the free ride ends.

So can you solo EQ now? I might go back just to dink around on a free ride and get some nostalgia screenshots of my DE character's ass...

Yeah, pretty much any character can solo to 70. It freaks me out.

And I JUST uninstalled EQ1. Like a week ago I think. Dammit!

You mean EQ2 right?

I can't picture that happening with EQ1 Rogues and Warriors - the 100% melee classes. Not at anything above 60. Even EQ1 monks (acknowledged to be somewhat "soloable") have a hard time with raid gear soloing past 60. When the end game emphasis shifted to raiding around the PoP era, mobs started hitting for a few hundred HP a hit - meleeing soloing became impossible. Last time I checked - my monk could solo extremely light blue cons (has the color code changed?) at the rate of 10000 mobs per bubble of exp - impossibly slow rate.

Soloing is very much possible - certain classes only and the key is to not let the mob touch you. Kiting, Fear Kiting, AE song kiting (before it was majorly nerfed).

If that has changed and EVERY CLASSS can solo (at a decent rate) to 70, I need to look at it. Is this happening with the new race areas in TSS?

Racials have changed as already mentioned. The character traits (master 2 choices, resists, etc.) are mostly the same but have been reset.

Depending on how long ago you last played achievements have also changed a few times. They are now available at level 10 (not 20), can be earned much faster than at the release of the system and as of the last patch are now also earned by completing gray quests.

Also, level 28 should take all of about 3-4 hours to get back up to if you start over... If you haven't started a char in Tim. Deep yet I would suggest that. A few hours of decent solo quest running will have you at level 20, 15+ AA's and some decent gear.

Would have been useful to know that at the start SOE...........

Got logged in last night to discover that loads of spell-type stuff has been changed (not that it really matters since I don't remember what it used to be like, only that its different now)

He must be talking about EQ1, because Sly hasn't (as far as I know, and we're roomies) even played EQ2.

Cool, I created my EQ2 account on Nov 13, 2004 and quit 18 days later after getting killed by the forge too many times. Looks like I just got 4 years worth of Vet Rewards for free! awesome, for real

Odd side note, I still have around 15 Pre-order codes for the nifty J-boots. If any of you that are going to play or are still playing want one, shoot me a PM.

Wasn't there a thing in EQ2 that let you change the look of an existing piece of gear without changing the stats? My patchwork clown of an assassin has some great looking custom-fitted armor from a quest, but the stats aren't as good as stuff I've gotten from the broker.

In Profit UI (which everyone should use btw) it's a button on your normal inventory that opens up the second set of slots. I don't know where it is on the default. Anything there overwrites appearance. It's a fantastic idea that every game should be picking up. I can't remember who did it first, I know it's in EQ2 and LOTRO.

There is a tab on the paper doll screen for visual only items.  You can put anything you want in those slots and its appearance supersedes whatever you're wearing for armor.

Edit: Also shift-click will let you 'try-on' items before you buy them from the AH or vendor.
