Now that you've been playing a few days (maybe I should have waited longer), why should I or shouldn't I buy this?

(I assume it will work on my month old computer.)

I can't be bothered to log into WoW these days - totally bored with that.  City of Heroes seems perfect for me, but I'm not doing a whole lot there - it's so casual friendly though, I love that part of it.

So - should I or shouldn't I?

And what's the M rating thing for, is there stuff my 9 and 12year olds shouldn't see?

For me, so far, it's combat pure and simple. The graphics are pretty, the quests are familiar, etc. But the combat is pretty fun for me.

As far as the M rating goes, I'm guessing it's for the nipples and blood.

Actually, they did a pretty good job with the quests (making them mature, that is). First mmo I've ever read more than 50% of the quest text. Sure, some I blow through, but i was playing to crush!

The combat is nice and we have quite a few f13ers (and their alts) in Bat Country.  Schild and some others can tell you more about the crafting, I'm so slow I'm not there yet.  I've enjoyed the quests.  The game feels very linear to me, however, but that might just be my early level.  And, yeah, M for nipples and hacking off limbs.  The odd blood splatter on your screen that I don't much like.  Some of the body tats wipe out nipples.

The crafting is time consuming, but not really. My biggest issue, since I can already survive in Purple Lotus pretty easily and gather really, really quickly since all those waypoints are on my ingame map, is getting the fucking paper and ink to make the blueprints. I could probably have a mess of buildings up this weekend, or at least the walls, if I had the damn blueprint items. I've searched fucking everywhere :( :( :(

You should buy it because:

The client is stable, and the servers have been smooth though they have had a lot of downtime early on.

The combat system is fun. More involved than WoW but not overly complicated.

The gameworld is gorgeous.

The Tortage quest area gameplay alone is worth the $50.

Well, so far its the first MMO I've played that could be considered fun....without the MMO stipulation being thrown on.

My guess is after 20 it will revert to WoW type leveling, but fuck it...they got me hooked already :)

Hmm, the M rating may prevent me from ever even trying this.  If I'm limited to playing this after my kids go to bed (I play in the living room,) I'm not getting it.

I'm not willing to have to stop and explain the nipples and flying appendages to my kids ever few minutes.  I'm also not going to tell them to stop sitting by me and watching.  That's the whole reason I play in the living room in the first place.

It's already hard enough to explain some things to my kids in WoW.

You can turn off the mature content.

You'll still have to kill dogs.

You can turn off (some) of the mature graphical content. However there's still plenty of dialog and quest-related stuff that's mature (swearing, prostitution, killing people just because, stealing from the dead, etc.).

I haven't gotten that far yet but the combat so far is not any more fun than CoH is at the later levels (once you fill out your attack chain). CoH has the same "no auto-attack"-style of combat (yes I know you can put a single power on auto) though the powers don't flow together quite as well as they do in Conan with some exceptions (Dual Blades has the same flowing style). Conan's combat is more fun at the early levels compared to CoH since you are never just standing around waiting for your powers to recharge like you do in CoH.

Conan combat ramps up. Comparing early game conan to late game CoH is a fallacy anyway.

As CoH is boring and would've taken me months to get to 40. And I'd still be running through central park and a warehouse. Not to mention the combo gameplay here is simply more fun. It's an intangible, man.

Actually, it's not an intangible. At 40 they at Q and E to 1, 2, and 3 for bottom left and bottom right respectively. And your combos get more complex. And it becomes much prettier/snazzy.

I'll see if I ever get that far. Right now "combo" is a total misnomer to me since when I see that word in relation to a combat system I think of fighting games. At the low levels "combo" in Conan really means "press two buttons instead of one to activate a power" not "chain two or more powers together to do something really cool". And the whole shield thing feels more like a reverse whack-a-mole (hit where the mole *isn't*) than anything that actually requires thought or strategy.

Well hidey-ho. I guess I pre-ordered because the CE arrived today. Installing. What am I going to do with the regular one I just bought?

Much like me, you have moments where you're incredibly lame and unfunny.

Anyone know if Best Buy is price matching Amazons price?

Mh. Just wondering if the octopus people will find a way to effectively two (or three) box here too. Without hard targeting, having to manually melee and with healing spells mostly working just inside a very short ranged and not visible tight cone it'll require next-gen human skills to make any use out of two boxing.

The buddy keys don't work yet.  I THINK it's associated with your account and you put in the person's email address.  If they ever bother.  I have a CE too, but I'm sending it back.  Amazon screwed us up and we canceled the order on their say so and after I bought a new box at the shop, they sent an email saying we couldn't cancel.  Bastards.

I'm so glad it's not just me. I like the matching attacks to defenses (big surprise I like whack-a-mole, I'm a raid healer in EQ2), but I don't see it as anything incredible or innovative.

The appeal of the combo thing just eludes me, is there a macro system I can use to spare my fingers? Does it change later to be somehow interactive?

That is not the appeal of the combat. It is that you hit what is in front of you when you swing your weapon and how the mobs react to being hit. There is no lock-on targeting and swinging at air. These games are always going to have buttons to mash.

I have never played WoW.
