Changes coming for ETC's and Game Time Cards reported by: CCP Wrangler | 2008.05.22 13:57:19
To simplify the ETC reseller program and attune our product offerings with industry standards, CCP will introduce new 60-day EVE Time Codes (ETC) and Game Time Cards (GTC) for $34.99 USD. These will replace the 30- and 90-day cards that were previously available through authorized resellers and the 50- and 100-day cards sold in the EVE Store. This will affect both online ETC's and Game Time Cards sold in the EVE Online Store. Orders may still be placed for time cards of all increments while supplies last or until the changeover to the new 60-day cards goes into effect on June 15, 2008. <whine>This ticks me off a little, as the option of playing and training with one character on a different account for the purpose of letting others hibernate while a long skill is training gets to be half as probable because of 30-day cards disappearing. This concerns people who train alts in the background, which serious EVE players do, and I'm suspecting a "Save the 30-day GTC" thread is already up on the official forums (c/d?). I'm sure CCP knows about this trend and has thought up of a way of getting a better margin out of this, since GTCs were the cheapest subscription method with the USD being where it is.</whine> On a more informative note, 30-day cards are much better since they let you manage your subscription better. I'm sure enough going to stock up on some 30-day GTCs before they run out since I'm seeing myself doing a lot of AFK training during the upcoming months. So if you don't know about it already using this link to buy EVE GTCs is an investment into the F13 Server Donation box!

c, there are multiple complaint threads all over the place about this, including a "Save the 30-day" one.
Shrug, price hike was bound to happen. They haven't answered if old codes will still be valid past the cutoff date. And, I wonder what'll happen to the ISK price for the current stock of GTC's, as well as the new 60 day ones.

It annoys me also as I prefer 90 day cards. Much better value than 30's.

Standardizing the GTC could be the first step in creating a microtransaction system. I.E GTC could be freely be exchanged with 1000 tokens and tokens could be traded in-game like a ship module.

Planes? Shit, I'm terrified to get in my car now!

That works out as a 35% price increase for me, on 3 accounts Time to have a serious think about whether or not EVE's worth subscribing to after my accounts expire.

The thing I'm confused about is, if it's a price hike because of the dollar being weak, then why are they also eliminating 30 and 90 day cards? They say they are aligning with industry standards, but, um, the rest of the industry offers 30, 60 and 90 day increments.
If they need a price hike, just do a freakin' price hike. Don't confuse the issue.

First 4 (6?) pages of the GTC sales forum are WTB orders for 30 and 90 day at the old (ISK) prices, but nobody seems to be selling anymore.

That's what happens when a single 90 day GTC ($38.85 -> 400m) costs the same as three separate 30 day cards ($14.95 -> 160m), but sells for approximately 20% less on a player-driven market.

So, have enough people squeaky-wheeled about this yet to get CCP to undo this rather customer-unfriendly idea? My fifth point in Drone Interfacing will be done on Friday, and I'll need to decide whether to stock up on 30-days when I reactivate my account. I'm not super-keen on paying for time spent on training skills that take three weeks or more to complete; being able to start the skill on the last day of a timecard and just fire up a fresh card when the skill is complete is nicely convenient for me.

When she crossed over, she was just a ship. But when she came back... she was bullshit!

I'm surprised nobody noticed that this is also effectively raising the "monthly rate" for someone who uses timecards to $17.50/month. If you used 30-day cards before, it was $15, on 90-day cards it was $13/month. I wonder if a subscription charge rate increase is on the way, as well, at least for US players.

I'm not sure I understand the whole "set long skill to train then unsubscribe" thing. Training a long skill doesn't prevent you from actually PLAYING the game, unless you're really in it for the gratification of powering up?

We've noticed, just no point commenting on it. I look at it as "They don't want to give volume discounts for GTC's." I can still get $13 / mo if I pay with credit card in 3-month chunks, or whatever. They've said somewhere (don't have a link) that they aren't increasing the credit-card prices, just the GTC prices. But who knows.

It doesn't prevent me from playing, no; it just makes me resentful of handing them fifteen bucks and only getting a single skill point for that length of time. It's more an issue of spite than anything else. The game just feels like I'm standing still when it's in the middle of a long skill, even though I'm still perfectly capable of playing.

An even longer chance as well because you're gonna be using a implantless clone rather than your implant loaded main. That should add another 3-4 days of pvp fun to the skill training time.

'Course, if you die in your implant clone, you get the benefit of the implants as long as you continue training one skill. So set Titan V and go PvP in your +5 implants!
