I'm sure FFXI, WoW and GW get it right. They have special arcane knowledge when it comes to fragment shaders, unlike the Funcom noobs.

On another note, have they updated the art, especially for the toons? I can only remember seeing toons looking like crap the past few months. But the past few days they've looked all... <gasp> human.

It's not the engine, it's me. I had to tone down DRAMATICALLY the visual settings to have it run at decent fps on my old machine. Those screens are taken on a low low low setting. You can't expect too much visual coherence when you tweak every single weird-named setting in the video panel to make it run smoother.

Yeah some of the models I saw in earlier screenshots had the "Hi this is what I did in 15 minutes in Poser complete with plastic skin" look to them. I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw in the character creation screen. They still have a bit of that "uncanny valley" look to the faces but it's much better than what I was expecting.

The animations, on the other hand, are crap.

My my, not another horrible, stiff running animation to get used to. I don't get how it can be so hard to make the running in MMOs not seem like you're watching the paralympics. They're generally just odd.

I don't think there's any hair.  You can get some huge tattoos no one will ever see though.
