wants a greif tittle

on: April 16, 2008, 10:14:06 AM

So I downloaded the trial for this last night, as I am bored of EQ2 already. Damn, I am starting to sound like Chedder. Anyway, anyone that still reads this forum have any advice for a new player so that I can make the best of my experience. I think I am going to play a Champion, which is what I played in beta for the few days I played it.

I yeah, I signed up last night, and still havent received my trial key.

Do those founder keys things give a free trial, and if so, anyone got another one to spare?

Warning, Champions are just as boring as warriors in Wow...mostly for the same reasons. I would suggest another class, like caption....or...

What do you usealy play? Whats your "Style" ?

As far as the key, it should be instant, check your spam box, and your turbine account. If i recall, it should have automatically applied to the account you created, but don't quote me.

If you want a swing'n'stab character, I would say guardian is in fact rather fun. I'm levelling one now (27) and enjoying it alot more than I've enjoyed warriors in WoW. I never liked rage as a concept as it works like a counter-productive timer when soloing. Plus that you get to do something different when in a group, unlike with champions.

Otherwise I find Lore-masters to be alot of fun, if you like juggling with alot of tasks simultaneously.

PS.
Shit. I think I find all classes I've played this far (all but hunter) to be more fun than their WoW equivalents. You just feel more unique. I've never played EQ though so I can't speak in relation to that, I'm afraid. :)

Edit: I think I got a key you could have, but that would be for the EU shard in either case.

All the classes definitely have more utility than the counterparts/possible equivalents in Wow.

I would recommend starting in the shire, as it was by far the most enjoyable starting area for me.  You don't necessarily have to make a hobbit, but it would be a bit easier.

As far as classes go, I enjoyed captain and the burglar the most.

I agree on Shire, it's great. My second hand choice would be Bree (Men).

Mr. B's post reminded me.  Where has Hal been lately?  Did he fall in a hole?  I miss him.

Another vote for the Shire. But honestly, I loathed Bree. I didn't mind the elf area, but the Shire is more familiar and has better quests.

If you can read this, you're on a board populated by misogynist assholes.

Still no key. I signed up again late last night cause I thought maybe I put in the wrong email, but nope. Nether one of them has shown up. Not a positive start for them.

As to class. I usually play a rogue in most MMOGs. Rogue in WoW and a Brigand in EQ2, Shadowblade in DAoC. I will probably mostly solo when I can, and I heard Burglers are not good at soloing. Also, I dont really like tanking, so thats why I didnt pick a Guardian. I may try the Captain. How is their DPS?

Thats if I ever even get a trial key.

Burglars are just fine soloers. They may not be the glass cannons often associated with backstabbing classes, but they're certainly able. And they got a metric TON of tricks. (As a blunt comparison, they got 38 skills, same as lore-masters, which is roughly 15 more than champions and guardians.)

The shire c an be sleepy for some, its not 100% combat oriented, but each area is supposed to reflect the tone of the race.

You're correct. It's 99% pie and mail oriented!

So, I got a chance to try it out last night, I made a Captain and Champion got both to level 3. I like the idea behind the captain, but from everything I was reading they are the Ret Pally of LotRO. Any one have any experience with them?

The other 1% is chickens, beer, and oblivious hobbits blundering into danger.

Captains are well rounded.  They are decent warriors and get big weapons, but in addition can perform fancy buffs, heal, etc.

I was extremely successful as a Captain - Soloing was optional and I felt useful in a group.

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

I love hybrids but I quit my Captain at lvl 30.  He started feeling watered down and couldn't do anything very well.  To each his own though.

Burgs and LM's are NOT dps'ers in this game.  They are utility classes and do fine solo but bring some great abilities to groups.

As for starting zones I'd say Bree.  The Shire is nothing but fat hobbits ordering you to go fetch their mail or bring them a fucking pie.

Ered Luin is fine if you like climbing mountains and running your ass off.
