New collection of 36 instrumental tracks released under a Creative Commons licence. A package of 9 tracks can be downloaded free. All 36 can be downloaded for US$5. The licence means anyone with the 36 tracks can also make them freely available for download. Also you can use them as the soundtrack to anything non-commercial you make (e.g. games, animations or videos), or make your own remixes. Or you can pay US$300 plus shipping for the signed vinyl LPs :) Website: http://ghosts.nin.com(I did the nine-track download and it took 5 attempts - the servers are being bombarded)

Wikipedia says: In March 2007, the multitrack audio files of Year Zero's first single, "Survivalism," were released in Garageband format for fan remixing. The multitrack files for "Capital G," "My Violent Heart" and "Me, I'm Not" were released on April 26;[18] "The Beginning of the End," "Vessel" and "God Given" were released on June 12.[19] Initially formatted for Garageband and Logic Pro, WAV files for other applications were later distributed through BitTorrent.[20] On April 4, 2007 a high-quality leak of the promotional disc supplied to listening parties was also leaked onto peer-to-peer networks.[21] In response, the entire album became available for streaming on Nine Inch Nails' MySpace page on April 10, 2007.Edit - I've never been a major fan, but I've had the nine downloaded tracks on rotation in Winamp for the last couple of hours and liked them. I'm going to seek out the 36-track download, but might wait until the servers settle down.

What books is Tom Baker reading? I use audible lots and lots, and this sounds nifty. Or am I totally off track?

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Good for Trent.

Ooh thanks for the info. I've been a fan for many years, but I don't check much music sites or anything very often so I could have missed this for a long time.
Last I remember reading was that there was plans for a follow-up to year zero to be released, but I know never to expect anything too quickly from Trent.

I bought the $10 version and my download crapped out at 739kb :(
Sent them an e-mail, but I'd advise holding off for a few days.

I can't hear shit, the roadies at the Dropkick Murphys show couldn't tell an equalizer from their own asshole, but after I can you know, hear again, I'm getting this. If it doesn't suck, the $75 package is super nice.

Update: I'm told the music is only for sale to people in the US. The rest of us are only allowed the 9 free tracks.
Also, Reznor himself has supposedly put up a Pirate Bay torrent of the 9 free tracks, to take some weight off his servers.

It's OK, and I think it's great how he's distributing this, but I can't really get into a NIN album without Trent's vocals. Besides that, most of these 9 tracks are slow and ambient in nature. If I do listen to instrumental stuff, I at least prefer songs with some head bobbing/dancibility/pop sense.

I'm in the UK and just got the 36 track version down Yep my second-hand info seems to be wrong. I just paid $5 with an Aussie credit card and gave an Aussie address and I'm downloading the FLAC version of the full thing.

I love me some NIN. Year Zero was pretty good. If anyone has an alternate download link for any of this, let me know, since the Ghosts server is getting skullfucked.

I don't know, having looped through all 36 tracks twice now the whole thing really gels very nicely; it felt a bit more subtle.

I fell of the Nin Wagon after downward spiral. Going to check this out however. I hope its not just remixes after remixes.

All of the albums after spiral are better than this. They fucking kick ass, to be exact. This is not really a good place to start imHo.

Site's description of where this fits: This music arrived unexpectedly as the result of an experiment. The rules were as follows: 10 weeks, no clear agenda, no overthinking, everything driven by impulse. Whatever happens during that time gets released as... something.

Yeah I read that.. Just saying. He's missing out on two good LP's (among other releases) if he hasn't touched anything since the Downward Spiral. They're more in tune with what he's heard from Reznor -- in my opinion, some new tracks are better even. I liked that Reznor got more analog and just rocked out in recent years. I don't think this album sucks or anything though. I just have little use for it. Three years ago, I probably would have enjoyed it more... But I suppose I've kind of "dumbed down" my tastes, for lack of a better word. I don't care much about experimental projects from anyone these days. Now I just want catchy pop music, lots of explosions and porn in my movies, prefer classicism to anything else in painting, and have developed an appreciation for Robert Frost.

I dig the Fragile, even though I don't really listen to that kind of stuff much anymore. I liked the remixes of Spiral better than the original.

I bought the FLAC downloaded version for $5. It's pretty much NIN with no lyrics. Some noise, some actual music. Not bad though, and worth $5.

Much respect for Reznor, but I haven't liked anything he's done since The Fragile (and only about 5 songs on that).
Come to think of it, a lot of the stuff on Pretty Hate Machine comes off as trite these days. And Downward Spiral, while having a few classics, also sort of falls flat with me.
I did try really hard to be a NIN fan though. Really I'm just a fan of about 10 songs. (The Perfect Drug is still one of the best songs ever, though.)

I have a nice remix album of The Perfect Drug. I was into the Orb a bit at that point, and the Aphex Twin ambient collection. Like I said, I don't really listen to that stuff anymore.

The Lost Highway soundtrack really was one of the best albums of the late 90s, it has so many originals on it and a lot of them are some of the bests the artists have ever made.
