The goal with Fable 2's combat is to be both "unbelievably easy to play" and "make you feel heroic." It's simple but has depth. All it takes is one button press. Players can beat the game button mashing

Looks like it should be a decent game, from the videos that were shown at GDC.  Combat does look a little too simplistic, and I'm not expecting anything ground-breaking, but it looks far from actually being bad.

Pete's hype is really a different flavor from Bethesda's I personally find that man very out of touch with reality.
How can a combat be simple yet deep...but acknowledges that button mashing is a valid way to approach it?
It's just...NOT. possible!

i think he hates games that makes him look stupid, fair point. But I think it's the case with bioshock attempt to reduce its difficulty by giving auto life back when you're dead. Now that's just over-shooting the mark. Where is he aiming at? Games that make ppl feel cool?

That's a parody. Peter Molyneux is doing a parody. He's just joking. It's not really what he thinks or wants us to think.

Right?

While I was  swamp poop about Pete, the Tony Hawk example definitely paints it in a different light.

I used to love Tony Hawk games, around the third or fourth one you were expected to be able to do the most ridiculous shit as normal pedestrian gameplay. At one point a friend came over and was like "Oh, let me unlock all this shit for you" and did some kung fu on the controller.

Unlike Petey, it didn't make me feel stupid. It made me feel like not buying Tony Hawk games and focus on better things. Didn't make me want to play Tony Hawk with one button tricks  swamp poop

Fable 2 will suck.

Eh, I really enjoyed the first Fable and I'm looking forward to the sequel, especially for the co-op gameplay. Combat was fairly simplistic in the first game and it didn't bother me at all. I'm not looking for the next Ninja Gaiden here.

yeah me too, I find the setting quite charming but the game doesn't really have replay value and whatever Moly promised wasnt really in there.
So when he started hyping the sequel soooooo damnnnn much. I find it very hard to even believe 20% of what he's saying.

The first Fable was fun, while not really delivering on much of the promise ol' Petey blathered on about during the pre-release hype. If the second is more simplistic, I'm not sure I should really bother.

It actually is possible (not that I think it will be the case with Fable 2).  Take a look at fighting games, many of which can be beat by button mashing (depending on the difficultly level set for the computer), but also have depth for people willing to learn.
