Irony is that Star Wars -was- made by Kurosawa. Originally named Hidden Fortress. Or did I fall in the sarchasm?

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Don't know if this is an awesome pic but I think it's definitely a picture of awesomeness:

~100 people setting out on an 87 mile ultramarathon along an old Roman trail through the middle of the UK. The winner completed the course in 14.5 hours although not everyone made it. (Time limit was 26 hours for this group.)

That's some hobby they've got there. The picture actually managed to bore me, let alone a mild jaunt across merry old England.

If that's along Hadrian's Wall those are some bad dudes.  I hiked about 10 miles of it last summer and it was pretty tough with all the up and downs.

It's not Hadrian's Wall (although that would be awesome) - it's the Ridgeway, a 5000 year old trade route. It still takes about 9000ft of ascent in total though (and the second half seemed to be one long uphill). It passes some interesting landmarks (if you're into that sort of thing) like the Uffington White Horse, Wayland's Smithy but the downside is that it was all in the dark so you can't see a damn thing. The route finishes in Avebury which is the site of the largest stone circle in Europe (if not the world) that's allegedly older than Stonehenge (which is nearby).

Full disclaimer (at the risk of reducing awesomeness of the pic and boring schild even more Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?): I didn't take the picture because I'm in it. Not as a spectator.

How do you prepare for that?  Seriously.

I am seriously the worst person to ask but Apocrypha's pretty spot on the money.

EDIT: Fuck it, I'll share. In another thread to stop fagging up this one.

It doesn't have the same effect on the iPhone but I literally had to check to see if it was a .gif or another format (.jpg) before believing what I was seeing.

While it is certainly an awesome picture, I find it disturbing seeing him dressed as a normal human being.  He's Gandalf for Chrissakes!  He is supposed to have a very long beard and long gray hair, not to mention the flowing gray/white robes!

Hmm. If I was Ian McKellen I'd be pissed off with that. Wearing a Stonewall t-shirt on a demo protesting against the pope and having it appear on the internet with the political message replaced with some inane fanboi crap? Yeah, definitely pissed off if I was him.

That's how I thought of it as well.  I knew what shirt it was prior to the shop though.

Also I think he cuts a pretty striking figure with only the short facial hair.

Yep, same impression I got as well.  Of course, the guy in the background has the unshopped version too.

And he's proof that you don't have to be a young 20-something with a fake tan to be attractive.
