The first comment on the blog is dead-on in intent.  It's too white in that pic.  Toss in some ethnic flavor and drop that horseface Hewett. Blargh!

That's part of the artwork, not a real person.

Here's a version I took myself about a year ago.

Yeah, I don't think he'd be able to get away with that (with the time and equipment it would take) in broad daylight.

Ah, interesting. The Google picture is just small/low-res enough to make that non obvious. Now that I give it a 3rd look its clear that it is too flat to actually be a person.

In that vein here is a cute 3D drawing a chalk artist did on the sidewalk to earn donations during Christmas.  The gold coins are one dollar and the silver/gold are two dollar coins.  He had a couple buckets full of change he had scraped off the drawing behind him too, that guy did quite well.

Just looking at the picture, first thing I thought of was: what an odd angle of Greenland...followed by, wait, that coastline is not Greenland... followed by seeing the BBC link +  ACK!

It actually looks like a volcanic plume creating a shock wave. I'll now go find out what it is.

I just typed 'volcanic plume shockwave' into Google and it came up. That's what it looks like and that's what it is. :)
