Well to be fair, he is a dwarf. Beard + geologist = dwarf. You just can't win against a dwarven beard.

Oh man, just to elaborate, I once had to use a citation from a seismic geologist in California whose name was, I shit you not, John Clinkenbeard. Fucking dwarf if I ever saw one.

(Edit: Actually, John P. Clinkenbeard is a senior geologist/mineralogist with the California Division of Mines and Geology. DWARF.)

I always wanted to be a geologist. I should've known I wasn't cut out for it when my beard stalled just shy of where Fraegendwarf's is.

I wonder what it would've felt like being in that "needle" on the middle right side (I assume that's an observation deck near the top), assuming that lightning bolt actually hit the tower.

CN Tower gets hit about 75 times a year. I'm sure it's hot and blinding, though I'm not sure if they close it down right before a storm.

Edit: This is what the sky looked like right before that lightning storm last night...

And apparently people were in the tower during the storm.

The CN tower is VERY well grounded, and i imagine it gets hit a lot more then 75 times a year, being the tallest structure in down town Toronto.  I doubt anyone in the tower experiences much more then a bright flash and a muffled bang when the strike hits.

75 seems like a good number considering how much of our year is spent under snow/cold weather. You could be right though, the way they figured out how often it's struck was very weird.

I imagine that tower is very well insulated from the lightning rod. It looks designed for exactly that purpose. You'd probably be more aware of the flash and clap of the larger strike nearby.

If I had my way, I would enact building codes such that every skyscraper would be fitted with a lightning rod connected to a giant animatronic Frankenstein's monster which would stand up as the lightning hit.
