For comparison, here's a map of Tim Hortons locations:

I never realized we let Tim Horton's south of the border (or north if you live in Detroit).

A global map of Starbucks like that would be scary to behold.  As it is, I did find an interactive map that groups them into larger chunks the further up you are, but you can zoom down to each individual store.

Yup, awesome program too. My family fell on hard times when it was my younger brothers turn to go to camp and we couldn't afford it. He managed to get asked to go to Tim Horton's Kids camp and its defined him to this day. Really helped build up his confidence and leadership skills.

That's the map from the turn of the century. Once you cross the middle of the country going west, nobody lives there until you get to California.

Here's something even scarier, that Starbucks map doesn't include those Starbucks that exist inside other businesses or establishments.  Those are standalone Starbucks only.  And you can't get further than 170 miles from one in the lower 48.

Here in Seattle there's a Starbucks inside another Starbucks somewhere in town.  I thought it was a funny joke, then realized it was real.

I drove out here I80, and while I80 is fairly populated and busy, once past Nebraska there's a reason it's called the Wild West.  Wyoming through Oregon was desolate compared to the Midwest.  After 35 years in Ohio, I simply didn't realize and never imagined how empty it is.  I mean, every winter people get lost in the WA/OR mountains and die.  That shit just doesn't happen in Ohio, not to that extreme.
