I'll give you the T3 pocket radio dial, the rest of that is a stretch.

Look!  They both have a mesh grill! (not even the same grill pattern)

Look! They both are rectangles on a stand! (which look nothing alike other than obfuscated by angle) (no, seriously http://readersrecommend.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/braun_le1.jpg)

Look!  They both are metal boxes! (also look nothing alike: http://24.media.tumblr.com/LTrEP2xA7ibfqqas8G2zt555o1_500.jpg)

Look!  They both have round buttons! (That's not even what the calculator app looks like)

Most of those are more dissimilar than they are similar.

The point is apple copies people all the fucking time but gets litigious when people do it to them.

Dieter Rams.  There is an exibit around the Bay Area somewhere of the stuff he did for Braun.  His influence extends well beyond Apple, also.  He's like, a genius.

It's one thing to take inspiration from an iconic image from the past, it's another to completely redesign a product just prior to launch to mimic your current competition, particularly when they have legal claim to aspects of the design you are copying and to leave a paper trail that says, "Hey guys lets copy that protected work, yes I know it's protected!!!".  I don't even know why this is a discussion, Toyota can't make a car in 2012 that looks like a 2012 Ford Focus, it's not even open for debate in any other realm other than for people who, for whatever reason, don't like Apple.

I own one Apple product and couldn't care less but crap this shit is annoying.

All that Braun stuff is well-known and deliberate on Apple's part. Braun just didn't patent 'shiny rectangular box' the way that Apple did 'rectangle with rounded corners.' (And it would have expired by now in any case.)

Yeah, that's my beef. Especially if its about trival patents like a scroll bar that hides automatically. Yes, Apple patented that recently.

Now they pissed of the Swiss. SBB (Swiss Rail) is considering sueing for copying their iconic clock-design (protected of course, what isn't):

Quote
Underwater photographer Yoji Ookata first noticed these bizarre geometric circles off the coast of Japan. He was understandably pretty confused, and asked the advice of colleagues.
After returning to the site with co-workers and a television crew, they worked out that they're being made by male puffer fish. It's thought to be a 'display' to attract females and/or a shield to protect their young from potentially dangerous ocean currents.
It's about six and a half feet wide, and was painstakingly created by one male puffer fish. He worked at it for several hours, sweeping his tail in the sand to carve out the structure. He didn't just shape it either - he decorated it, using small stones and shells.

The universe is weird. Cindi Lauper was on Stern this morning and now Captain Lou shows up in a thread.

The youth of some of our posters is showing.. or is it my age.

Yes, that's a rubberband on Cap't Lou.  No, it's not in his beard, it's a piercing.

[fishing poster]

Oooh, them's fightin' words around these parts.  Local commercial fishermen are only allowed to fish in season, so as not to deplete the local population, while Native fishermen are allowed to fish year round because of their treaty rights.  Needless to say, this causes some tension.
