Someone really needs to put together a joke application video where they pretend to be a thinly veiled pedophile.   Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

I have a daughter and don't find this even mildly amusing.

The problem is that pedophile jokes suddenly become a lot less funny when you have kids. For some people, they even become anti-funny.

On the other hand, if someone wants to put together a video where they pretend to be a pedophile and then, years later, have that video turn up on YouTube... now THAT's comedy.

Yes. I got that email about creating a video as well. I don't know that I'll do that because the game is not THAT important. Eventually, there'll be an open beta, or a trial client.

As for the "joke" video, I don't have children and I don't find it funny in the slightest. Why would anyone even joke about that?

Saturday Night Live pretty much did that in the sketch:

http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/segments/9166.shtml

Quote
A group of adults are at a class teaching them how to set up a MySpace page. Nancy admits that she’s there to find out what all the hullabaloo is about, but the rest of the class is made up of creepy men who are very curious about whether or not they can lie about their ages on MySpace.

The teacher, Danny, checks out what the guys in the class are doing and sees that many of them are lying about their ages to make themselves appear to be teenagers. One of them names his profile “Naughty Girls Hotstuff” and Danny warns him that he’s going to get a lot of teenage boys approaching him online. “Oh, I don’t want that,” the guy nervously says.

Work in pediatric oncology for a few years.  You'll find it gives you a whole new perspective on things.  Some things just aren't funny... like children dying of cancer.

Yeah, but if someone was to make a joke about a bright shiny colored clown selling cigarettes to kids, now that is funny! Because it isn't real.

   2. Go to Dream Studio and create a video answering the question "Why do you think you should be selected for the closed beta testing?"..

Not even an entry, just a video from someone I'm subscribed to on YouTube.

Sorry about that I didn't intend to offend.  To answer honestly I suppose what I would find amusing about the situation is the reaction of a group of adults looking through videos of young girls who want into a hello kitty MMO and then runs across a video of some pervy old dude trying to get in.  I'm not sure why I find that amusing, but I do.

Count me as someone not offended when I know the person isn't being serious.

Also, if anyone wants it, I'll email them the invite.  I assume that's the way you can pass it along.

Funny thing about HKO is, everyone in the industry keeps talking about integrating social networking into their games. What they are doing with HKO and sanriotown.com is light years ahead of most. And yet, nobody is talking about them.

Not that I've signed up or anything. ;)

Unless a MMO is grim and gritty with realistic physics and all your friends are playing it, it doesn't count as a MMO.

Calandryll is spot on - light years. How HKO have integrated social networking into their game is fantastic. While most big mmoRPGs are focusing on simple social stuff such as guilds and guild management, HKO is one step ahead. And the HK fans will love it I bet. I love the super happy fun stamps I can put in my HK emails - I think I will start using for my EVE Online corp correspondence.

Now, we'll see about the game itself - I really don't want to grind starfish all day long, but that's just me  Get off my lawn!
