Even in PC land where all the OSes hate each other, you can plug your Dell keyboard into an iMac and have it work. I've been spoiled. You can plug your mac keyboard into a PS3 and have it work. The analogy is crappy. Activision wants to charge with compatibility, which makes double sense since EA/Harmonix knows they crafted a piece of shit guitar. Activision owns superior hardware and wants EA to cough it up. This is good business. Not some kind of compatability conspiracy.

I'm not talking about Rock Band/Guitar Hero compatibility, doofus. I'm talking about Guitar Hero/Guitar Hero compatibility here.

This goes to reinforce my view that consoles suck. Even in PC land where all the OSes hate each other, you can plug your Dell keyboard into an iMac and have it work. I've been spoiled. Yep. It's a way to make more money from hardware peripherals. Of course, some PC manufacturers do it too (see: Apple iPod connectors, etc.).

So I got one for my birthday. Now I need to go get some games. Any recommendations?
Most non exclusive stuff I will get on my xbox, especially FPS games, since the Xbox controller is much better for me for those. Also, I dont like Sports (except skating) and driving games.
I was planning on:
Uncharted Folklore Resistance Tony Hawk
I have also been considering getting Lair used since I heard they patched the controls and it works much better now.
PS. Any change of getting Xbox added to spell checker?

Download the Ratchet and Clank demo to see if it interests you. It's my favorite PS3 game after Uncharted.
Also, Super Stardust HD is great fun. You can find it on PSN.

I would also dl the Folklore demo. We still haven't picked it up yet - the demo is fun, but something was missing for me. Another vote for R&C, but you might already know that those games aren't for you. As far as Tony Hawk - a lot of people seem to really love Skate, in case you are interested in checking out something a little different.
edit: Struck out Skate reference - you mentioned cross-platform would get 360 treatment

Folklore game is better than the demo. I might be wrong since I seem to hate demos, but with the demo you don't get the story and world introduction, which is a big part of a mystery-story-based game.
I can't remember if you also have a PS2, but there's some nice stuff for PS2 from last summer. You didn't mention which PS3 you have, though. I will have to assume it's the non-BC one and also suggest Ratchet & Clank Future.

I got the 80gb, and I have skate for Xbox already. I have always liked Tony Hawk more on the PS controller, as I would rather use the pad than the thumbstick.
I am also planning on picking up PS2 Shadow of the Colossus since I never played that back in the day.

Ok, so I hit up best buy and bought Resistance and Uncharted. Then went to Target to buy a Blu-Ray movie cause Best Buy was super low on stock from Xmas still and they had Warhawk and Lair on sale. So I bought those too.
A few things. So far I enjoy Lair, much more than Resistance. Granted I only played both for about 20 minutes. Also, I got 300 on BRD and when watching it, it is SUPER noisy. Like picture noise. I had to crank up my TVs Noise Reduction to Maximum. Then it looked pretty damn god, but still really noisy.
Any tips on setting up the BRD player to have it give me that crystal clear images they are always touting.
Now, the bad part is that my TV wont accept 1080p (but thats going in another thread later today) am I screwed on the BRD with only 1080i?

The BD version of 300 is very grainy. I'm unsure as to whether it's intentional or not. I've noticed BD stuff is more noisy than what I had imagined, and I have a 32" Bravia. I'd like some more insight on that as well.
You can output BD in 720p if you mess with the settings under the system options menu. Otherwise it defaults to 1080i. I'm not sure what type of set you have, does it do 720p? If so, just uncheck 1080i in the video options and it'll default to 720p.

I have the Sony XBR1 60inch. I'm going to make another thread about it in a minute.

I think 300 had intenional digital grain added in as a stylistic choice. It was grainy in the theater.

Well, its not just grainy, is like moving noise. The stuff in the background looks like its alive with lots of tiny bugs crawling on it or some thing.

I got home and watched some of Resident Evil Extinction. It also is very noisy. Even when I turn my TVs noise reduction to full. It is NOTHING like the crystal clear image I thought I would get from a high def movie. Can anyone help. I am getting very frustrated with this whole thing. In fact I had a very bad day and am considering just taking back the stupid PS3.

Both Talladega Nights and The Prestige looked good to me at 1080i, no grain, and my TV is crap. I got nothing.

So, I threw in my DVD copy of 300, and it looks fucking horrible. I mean BAD. Really really bad. Like around or worse than normal cable channel on a large HDTV. Honestly, the best image I can get is the HD Discovery Channel. It looks much better than Blu-Ray, also my HD HBO Channel looks much better. This is really really frustrating to me.

Ironically, this is comforting to me. One of the first DVDs I played on my new 46" HDTV was 300, and let's jus say I was terrified by the image quality. Not that regular TV is all that great up close, but I was expecting greatness from that particular film.

Well, after thinking about the horrible image quality of the normal DVD the only thing I can think of is that the PS3 is downgrading the signal, and then the TV, since its the stupid XBR1 is upgrading it again.
I am considering a Sony boycott for life with the way this is all going.

Yes, 300 looks like crap intentionally!
Speaking from experience (I'm sure there's better), the best blu-ray movies I've seen are Kingdom of Heaven, Silent Hill, the Pirates sequels, and the last NIN concert disc.

Morf, check out AVS to see what they use as a movie Blu-Ray in order to judge quality.
Then go buy that.

The only thing I can offer is that Planet Earth looks superb for the most part. The 3 BD movies I've seen on my tv are 300, Planet Earth, and Tallidaga Nights. 300 and Tallidaga Nights look like shit while Planet Earth ranges from awe inspiring quality to so-so depending on the scene.

I'll second the planet earth recommendation. I have been extremely underwhelmed with most blue ray movies so far. For my money though the planet earth blue ray looks FAR superior to the HD broadcast they did.
Another great one is the 2001: A Space Odyssey re-issue they just did. Very impressive for a movie thats 40 years old.

The Pirate movies, Hellboy, Kingdom of Heaven, Corpse Bride look great on bluray. 20 Million Miles to Earth, (remastered) 5th Element, Harry Potter stuff, look good.
Stargate, Kung-fu Hustle look grainy, pixelated in parts.
300 I have in HD-dvd, and it looks like shit.
