Actually, I think he perpetuates that he believes this just so people continue to talk about him. I don't think it's delusion though. I truly think it's absolute narcissism, an order of magnitude beyond anyone else I know in this world, real and virtual.

Any mom that lets their 31 year old son live in their house is either as deranged as the son. OR LOVES HIM WAY TOO MUCH.

Let's just keep it that simple. The guy is broken. Period.

Well, this is certainly disproving my statements about the vitriol awaiting those who vary from the one true path of the groupthink.  Murdoc's post in particular makes me rethink my whole position on the value of civility.

Uh, I called you a prick.  Yes, my civility went right out the door with that one.  Woo-hoo.

I'm happy with what I've done today.

You're happy with becoming Geldon V.3?  With being the guy who argues the unpopular position for no other reason than because it's the unpopular position and it gets him attention?

And what baseless insults am I flinging about?  Do you mean the post that murdoc is so eloquently and forensically dismembering?  None of those were insults, for all that they seem to have hit a raw nerve in at least one person.  Personally, just to clarify, I think it's ok to be a geek, to like computers and games or to be awkward around others, especially as a kid.  I certainly don't see those as insults.

Wait... what?

I dismembered what where?

edit: Oh Good, Murgos solved my confusion. Congrats.

This thread really needs to stop. Watching people get into a shit storm over a justifiable banning (for teh Ch1ldren!1!!) and someone objecting to it (because I guess Endie objects to bans that haven't been voted on or something) was kind of funny at first but really it's just getting worrying now. I'd love to be able to say some shit with Ironwood's typical pithiness but instead I'll just settle for a heartfelt plea for everyone to stop being jackasses.

Seriously, this thread turned to garbage. I see differing opinions and no amount of arguing is going to change those individual opinions. Time to move back to the academic discussion of 'jackhob'.  Grin

1. Internet drama is lame.

2. Posting long posts with numbered points about said internet drama is not lame (because [3]).

3. Realising that posting said numbered-point-posts might actualy be internet drama is lame, and thus not allowed.

4. Things that are f'ing lame are more lame than things that are just lame.

5. For the record I don't like Hoax. But it's ok, because he doesn't like me and neither of us have pink names or den posting privledges - let alone access to secret forums where we can convince the oligarchy to summarily ban the other to kingdom come (or at least from these forums).

Final thought: This post is f'ing lame. It was probably written by a jackhob. A jackhob being one which causes you to  ACK!

I was refraining to do what Endie is doing because I know there is no point in it.
I know too well how much people love to stick to their aggressive positions, so if you (and them) can't agree on something in a matter of minutes, or a few posts, then it's over.
So I am not trying to agree on anything here, but felt like adding a few things I came up with while rethinking the whole story.

You all know that the kind of behaviour that is accepted and actually endorsed on f13 (read: being an ass, smartassing, violently flaming, calling other people names, spamming/flooding) would earn everyone of us a ban in no time anywhere else. Bear with me, I hate those boards, they are just hypocrites screening themselves behind silly rules and the fact that f13 is THAT different was the first reason why I loved it. Sure it can be tough at first, I was called names so many times here that I lost count ("village idiot" and "weathervane" are the two I reserved a special place for in my memory). But hey it's ok. I like blunt honesty cause that means I can use it too. This is the best thing about f13, you don't have to hold your fire and you don't have to be afraid of people badmouthing you behind your back. Isn't that great? I think it is.

Still. This would earn US ALL a ban in almost every other virtual public place of the world. While Geldon wouldn't get banned anywhere else than f13.
So, while I think I like the f13 ways more than I dislike them, it's statistically unfair to try and make him look like the weird one.

You can be a one-liner dick on f13 and get away with that (actually you can get some chocholate milk for that) but talk too much about videogames and such a recurring distraction is a major offense which, if not rectified, will eventually lead to a ban.

Don't get me wrong. I still like f13, can't stop liking it. I donated what I could (I wanted to do so since day one and I am happy you can now, and I'll do it again in the future). But there's something wrong with some of US, not just with Geldon, if we can't get along about fucking videogames with someone who is civile, polite and like it or not has things to say about it.

I didn't want to post again in this topic because I made my point earlier: I feel it was unfair and unjustified. Simple and dry.
Now I probably felt like posting again because you want to make it sound like it's SO OBVIOUS why he deserved it. Well, I want to upgrade my previous point then: Not only I feel that the ban was unfair and unjustified. Now I feel that we are ALL nutcases and the only OBVIOUS thing is that he got banned because he's a different nutcase, the less cool kind, than the majority of us.

Say all you want but I am convinced that if Geldon had been even slightly more of an asshole and had coloured his posts with a few cursewords (bonus points for using caps or making up creative ones) against random users, instead of always being so boringly civil, he would be still here and maybe greeted as a cool kiddo among us professional asses.

I had decided I wouldn't be reasonable about this topic as other have already been reasonable about it and it succeeded in going nowhere. But some thing piss me off. This is one of them:

I was refraining to do what Endie is doing because I know there is no point in it.
I know too well how much people love to stick to their aggressive positions, so if you (and them) can't agree on something in a matter of minutes, or a few posts, then it's over.

I cannot speak for everyone here, but I can speak for myself. I am more than willing to reconsider my position no matter how strident I might come across at first. To insinuate that everyone who happens to be diagreeing with you and Endie on this topic is incapable of doing so is just as insulting as suggesting they are all fat social rejects. You are not the paragons of virtue, nor are you the finest open-minded debaters.

If you want to put forward a reasonable position, and stop with this:

So I am not trying to agree on anything here, but felt like adding a few things I came up with while rethinking the whole story.

Rubbish then do so. But hiding behind a "you guys aren't willing to change your minds no matter what, so I'll just assert myself as being correct without actually giving reasons for being so" excuse is offensive and lazy, and the kind of thing that makes people respond with insults and jokes to begin with. If you want to have this discussion in a sensible way, be sensible about it. You're not changing anyone's mind when you state your position over and over and don't respond to the criticisms and reasoning of other.

Quote

This is very incorrect. I know many places where Geldon would get banned far far quicker than here (FOUR YEARS?!).

Geldon seems to have become more an idea for you than a person. I suggest you take a few steps back and work out what your problem here really is. Is it that Geldon was banned or that anyone was banned? Are you (like some others) confusing this issue with the existance of said secret boards, den posting rights, and some fear of the ruling oligarchy? If you have something to say about these things then say them explicitly. Don't hide behind "banning Geldon is bad because he's just like us yet polite". This isn't a board that champions being polite. It champions being opiniated, honest, and bullshit free.

And you wonder why people decide to just take the piss instead of talk to you seriously?

My $0.02:

I don't have a problem with secret forums and an inner circle, in principle. However, knowing that such things exist makes me feel left out. Its not even an entitlement thing, as I've been posting here for like...6 months or something. It's just the feeling that decisions are being made, behind your back, that could end your posting here.

Granted, I'm giving the mods the benefit of the doubt and assuming Geldon was PM'd to quit being such a jackhob; he failed to do so, thus, b&. And I can accept that. Hell, if he had just disappeared one day and I found out a week later, "Hey its been quiet, where'd Geld?" "Oh shi- lurk moar noob, he got b& a while ago!" it would be no big deal. But what happened was Cheddar (who has a pink name but isn't a staff member [right?]) made a smartass comment and suddenly someone's gone; for what looked like something mundane, especially given geld's track record. This makes me get all  Tinfoil Hat and the talk of seekret boards doesn't help.

So I guess what I'd prefer is mod action to be swift (schild said the b& was 1 month in the works...why not ban him then? Or wait til he did something ban worthy?) or more stealthy (just wait for the 30m period when he logs off  awesome, for real ). It was poorly handled, imo. I'm not going to argue with him deserving the ban or not.

If Endie hates how Geldon was treated, he evidently wasn't around for that time when there was an actual poll thread, with a banning as first prize  awesome, for real  His head would have likely assploded.

This is the greatest idea.  Ever.  Perhaps some sort of post off between the two?

Thats right, I said a post off.

Also, I had absolutely positively NOTHING to do with the banning.  If I had realized my tiny joke ("Rasix, cleanup isle 3!!!") was going to spawn pages of tinfoil hats and gnashing of teeth I would have dropped it.  Personally, I think a 2 post limit a day woulda solved the problem.  But again, I am a no one.

Lamaros I told you elsewhere already but you are a true joke. You are typical forum trash.
Of course he SirBruces, he does that a lot. Check his past debates in other thread too, he would die for the last word and he can go as far as SirBrucing to win it.

I know that losing the debating county finals in high school still burns but you shouldn't inflict that on others around here. Here, you can get this trophy. Now please just shut the fuck up, stop clicking the quote button, shove the "paragon" word up your ass (you lost the spelling bee one too?) and enjoy your geldon-free world.
The ban stands unfair though, especially when we are out of a geldon but I still have to endure you.

And finally: learn to read. Cause you can get my win because I am all up for giving children something to be happy about, but you won't go that far in your craft just twisting, manipulating and decontextualizing things other people say. Unless your craft is politics, of course. Learn to read.

That said, prove me right and get your last word with something clever about me for the acceptance speech.
