Depends on how you do it.  The way most people do it, no it's not at all.  Setting up blinds, putting out scent lures and then sitting on your ass for a few days.. not a sport.  Even less so in the case of these jackasses, importing animals and "stalking" them one at a time in a few acres of fenced-in area.

 Getting out and actually stalking animals in the wild, knowing how to find them, and getting within a hundred yards or so, somewhat of a sport.  Big game hunting on the plains of Kenya.. definatly a sport.

Don't  get me wrong... hunting game for meat is one thing, hunting to say that you killed something is the kind of peen waving this world can do with less of.  Climb a mountain or cross a desert, that's a challenge.  Track an animal on the plains and take a closeup with a camera, same challenge.  Shoot a beautiful animal with a high powered rifle just because you want it's head on your wall... I call that a waste of beauty.

Yep, yep.  It's one thing to hunt animals if you're actually going to use the meat.  If you're just hunting for trophies to show how big your cock is then use a spear; I'd at least respect that.  Any pussy can kill an animal with a rifle, it's not especially brave, or remarkable.  

"Hey, I was able to kill a dangerous animal from 200 meters away with a scoped rifle!"  Not exactly impressive.

As long as I'm lingering in this thread I thought I'd pass on a Vietnam story my dad told once told me.  Supposedly he was on perimeter guard one night at his battalion area and one of the guys in his unit heard a noise outside the perimeter.  SOP at that time was because they were way outside of any civilian areas, if you heard a noise you went ahead and lit it up.  Well, that's just what this guy did.  When morning came they went out to see if there were any bodies, and it turned out the guy killed a 500 lb. tiger in the middle of the night.  Guess the guy wound up getting to take the skin home with him at the end of his tour.

That's my usual caveat, too.  I can respect the guys I know that go out & hunt deer because they like the meat.  They also bow or handgun hunt, coincidently.  Idiots like in the vid are just overcompensating for something.

I usually hunt whatever I hunt with a bow. Granted its not a spear but still classified as a primative weapon and requires a great degree of skill so neener. Lions however arent for hunting. whith the low numbers of big cats we have left on this planet and ethical hunter automaticly marks that shit off the list.

Good story, I have one that's almost the same... only really pathetic (ie without the actual danger and fear of wellarmed enemies)

A friend of mine did his national service. On  a night excercise they were walking a field.
Earlier that week while planning the excercise two officers had been chased off a fields by a very very irrate bull - this story had done the rounds in camp.
My friend was walking as the last man. It was pitch dark, and since they were playing war - everybody was wevvy wevvy queit.
Suddenly he heard the noise of something large breathing heavily and felt something warm at his neck. Remembering the bull, he turned around and emptied his H&K at the animal (blanks).
When everybody recovered from the shock and examined the scene, they found one horse lying on the ground, so scared it later had to be put down.

It looked to me they only hit 3 times... the very first shot that injured the lion, then after the attack, the lastl of like 7 or 8 shots that took it down as it was running away, and then a final shot after the attack where he finished it off as it lay wounded on the ground.  All the other shots missed... these guys should have tried out for Shaun of the Dead; they're about as accurate.

When you have a 500 pound animal bearing down on you at 35 mph, with no other interest other than turning you inside out with its claws and teeth as soon as possible, firing a gun accurately becomes a bit more problematic. The targets at the range don't eat you when you don't hit the 10 ring.

I don't know the specifics on the hunt- it may have been cropping (although I don't know if this takes place with lions), it may have been ranchers or cattlemen hunting down a problem animal, or it may have been a sporting safari. If it was a safari, the general rule of thumb is that the client takes the first shot; if the animal is in danger of getting away wounded or (in this case) rapidly approaching the group to do some surgery, then the bwana shoots. It is also the bwana's job to go after any wounded animals if they hole up in deep cover- imagine trying to dig out a lion that your dipshit client wounded (but didn't incapacitate).

I have a good deal more respect for bow and handgun hunters, yes.  Which is not to say there isn't skill required to hunt deer with a rifle, it's primarily in the setup, not the kill itself.
