Next Tim Shaffer game, looks like Dethlok crossed with the art of psychonauts.

I'm reserving judgement. The platformy/controls of Psychonauts was what killed it for me. It was floatier than the original mario bros.

Schafer is the man. Though I would agree that he hasn't quite perfected platforming like he did adventure.

More like Ash meets Full Throttle meets Dethlok meets Psychotnauts.  :-D

Tim Schafer + Jack Black = Brutal Legend (link iz trailer).

Heavy Metal Action Adventure with some Zelda/GTA stuff thrown in. Apparently there is or will be a preview in GameInformer. It's due out for PS3/360 in 2008. Other voice acting talent includes Lemmy and Dio. Additional music by several artists whose names I don't really recognize, but I'm not a music guy.

Also, demonic latex-clad battle nuns.

I'm sold.

Rated RP? lol Why'd they say it?

The Conan homage at the end is money.

Also, every single note of the OST better come from KG & JBs beautiful beautiful hands.

There's a video on Kotaku where they play a promotional vinyl record that's been sent out. It is, indeed, by Jack Black. It even has some voices recorded backwards in true 80s Metal-mythos style. I will not link it out of respect for your sanity.

I've heard that EA picked up Brutal Legends.  Anyone know if this is true?  I saw a trailer for the game and it seems like it could be awesome (i keep having flashbacks to Blackthorn).

Yes, EA announced that they picked up Brutal Legend a couple days ago at the VGA's.

gameplay.co.uk just sent me an email saying they have shipped my copy. With UK royal mail, it's anywhere between two days and three weeks until it gets here (Finland).

While the reviews are positive, they also have put up a giant "avoid"  sign for me. RTS elements sound horrid.

Psychonauts' RTS aspects were more stylistic than difficult, more puzzle than twitch. They only got fiddly and frustrating at the verrrrry end.

Apparently it's not rts, it's BAD rts. Poor control coupled with dumb ai. And multiplayer is based around the rts portion, with unique units.

I never got past the bad platforming.  Guess I'm just not a fan of Tim's work.

They couldn't talk Jack Black into playing at his own a gig he is majorly involved in?

I really liked the demo. Of course that didn't include any of the RTS gameplay.

I'll probably pick this one up several months from now when I'm looking for something new to play. Just too many other games right now.

That's actually a pretty fucking awesome song. The rest of the album is pretty meh this far, though.

We haven't gotten very far (I say 'we', but I'm just watching it get played), but it's still a hilariously over-the-top game.  The only RTS elements I've seen aren't too annoying.  They consisted of gathering a few guys and very basic stay here/follow/charge controls.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

I had a lot of fun with this game last night... does anyone else think of ocarina of time when you summon your car?

Nod, if it gets good feedback here and elsewhere, it might justify a bargain bin purchase in 6 months to a year or so.

I think Gamespot said 7 hours, if you ignore the side quests.

The PS3 demo was fun, but didn't have any of the RTS components the reviews bitched about.  Atmosphere is awesome if you're into (or were in your youth like me) metal and doom.  Gameplay for the solo run/stab/kill part was kinda weak, but it gave me a good chuckle or three.  It'll be a good bargain bin buy in 6-9 months.

The "RTS" stuff (aka Stage Battles) isn't like the C&C/*Craft RTSes. It's more akin to Sacrifice or the reimagining of Battlezone. You stay in control of your character and issue some simple commands from that perspective. The only resource are "fans" which come out of special vents and you collect them by building a "merchandise" tower akin to the manalith in Sacrifice. Summoning units to fight with you uses up a certain amount of fans.

The final battle is RETARDATIOOOON! Why they decided to make it a gimmick battle where none of the shit you learned during the whole game works, I cannot fathom.
